Re: Name three items or more from your teens you had in your car.
Where do I start, well the first good sounding bang for the buck system I got was mostly used stuff except the drivers. Had a Smokey and the Bandit TA, what a fun car it went through so many tires lol. Had Sansui 6x9 coax in the rear deck, pyramid 10s in center IB (they hammered, don't ask me why), another set of 10s into the rear seat, a pair of these blaupunkt 260 amps nobody wanted back then, set of 1" softdome radioshack tweeters in front doors and set of 4" boston acoustics. HU was the best clarion then a kenwood second to top of line. Had a lot of stuff in there for a while boston 1" tweeters, coustic amp300s, various drivers and other amps.
It never sounded good until I put the Nakamichi crossover in I paid $60 for from a tech. I bought winter beater cars for $150 back then 60 was a lot of cash. Car had a ton of bass that way, sounded really good. Only thing I bought new was the tweeters, $15 each for the pyramids, some lamp
wire
for sure, the 6x9s. I went through the pyramids they would wear out and bottom or the sun would roast them in 2-3yr. I had monster
cable
for
power
and subs, it was 'scrap' from install somehow lol. I ran EQs in there and ones I found were noisy, so I swapped drivers and messed with install until it worked without one. Ran resistors on some speakers as it was all run off two amps at 2 ohms. The blaupunks were 2x80 at 2 ohms, but all the subs would take. They must have had a subsonic or something in them because they would go louder than other larger amps on the IB subs and not bottom. I beat that system without mercy daily, but never clipped it, but it sat in the snowbank in winter. Pyledriver subs were awesome USA made back then, but they would not go louder than the pyramids so I sold them. I still have not found photos I took of that car and the system, but the install was pretty standard nobody did special stuff then around there. I put carpet on the
amp
boards and covered the seat and deck baffles, new trunk liner, rebuilt and covered the rear deck, it was top notch by our install standards. Ran the amps on a 30A fuse that would puke once in a while.
