Default any ideas how to HP sub 6db/oct at 50hz or boost around 50-60hz?

i want to use my diyma in a 1.5cf (qtc .5) enclosure but the low end is overbearing. my eclipse 8053 has no eq on the sub channel so that's not an option. is there a cap big enough to hp at 50hz w/ first order slope or any other filter that will boost 50 or 60hz with a wide Q?

Why not use a smaller, more appropriate enclosure?

well thats not the question here. i wanted to try this size enclosure (already have it built) to see if indeed it will have a noticeable improvement in transient response going from a .707 to a .5 Qtc. also, it seems the big factor why so many diyma have failed is due to the small enclosures they're put in.

anyways, let's keep this on topic and not turn this into a do this or that thread.

Well, whatever. Of course you're going to get the response you're getting in that big assed sealed box.

But since you're dead set on using it, you'll need more eq capabilities to tame it I'm sure. I'm not too sure some big cap is going to.

But to answer our question directly, I know of no large cap that will produce the results you're looking for.

Mine were in a .83 ft3 sealed enclosure when they failed, not a huge enclosure, but not tiny either. My current sub lives in the same enclosure.

this is the biggest cap PE has
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...number=027-378

you could put that in parallel with another cap to get what you need. the calculator i used said you need 795.79uf so you would need that big one plus one about a 300uf one.

the problem i see is that these are only rated for 200w so you rist poping one.

Midbass amp:US Acoustic USA4050 bridged
Sub amp: 2x zapco studio 500

yea... i've been trying to see if it's at all possible. an immediate equipment upgrade would be changing my deck to an eclipse cd7000 but i'm just not sure about the quality/sound of the newer decks and i just love my 8053 so much. hopefully someone chimes in with a novel idea

i may not even need any filter once my door pods are finished. the sls8's can just be hp'ed on a shallow slope and with some effective level matching i could get the results i'm looking for. keep the ideas coming though

couldnt you just buy an outboard eq. dont they make ones specifically for sub channels. that would be the ideal solution i would think. much better than hoping a cap does what you want.

Hmmm...could you just use a couple of caps in parallel? I'm trying to think if that would increase the power handling of the caps, or share the current. I'm having a brain fart on caps.

Just remember that caps in parallel with each other is equiv to resistors in series for determining the value.

going with the caps will rob you of power,

This is quite simple really. Find an amp with subsonic filter (a variable filter would be excellent) + 1 band PEQ.

Could find an old EQ... I have an old Zapco 15-band L/R SEQ... but I'm not sure if I could find the cable for it. Maybe. It's not in great cosmetic condition.

ehhh i dunno. adding another piece of equipment isn't very practical. looks like i'd better stick with a smaller box or different sub. dayton 10ho in a .7cf center console is sounding really cool right now.
