Hello, I'm James too. I've never downloaded a song from the internet, but you might be interested in this:

I'm probably a good bit older than the average DIYMAer, but I'm into fine audio - on the cheap, if possible! The first car stereo I installed was way back in the '70's. It was a AM/FM Cassette deck made by Audiovox. It hung underneath the dash of my dad's '68 Chevy Suburban and fed two paper 5 and 1/2 inch speakers of the same brand. I thought it rocked!

As for my current ride, I'm taking my sweet time in working on it. I recently scored two Vifa 8 inchers from Scott Buwalda (hey, isn't he a bit famous around these parts?), and they might eventually make it into the whip. They're woofers though, so that forces me into a three-way set up. I've got a couple of those MB Quart 2-inch metal dome mids that would work well with them, I think. If I do this, I'll probably design some crossovers as I just don't want to spend the money to go active yet. My new head unit is one of the last cassette players - again, showing my age - but I'm happy with it except for the bizzare controls.

Well, that's about all I want to tell you guys about me right now. Got to go learn how to download MP3's. Oh, wait I don't do that! ;)

Cheers,

only name cooler than James is Shamus.

i would try a nice ribbon tweeter with that 8" first. maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. that's one reason it's an addiction.

welcome.
