Default Rear-Door Mid Bass Questions!

I'm piecing together a system.

I think I would like to have lots of mid punch, so along with 6.5 comps in the front doors, I'd like to also put midbass drivers in the rear doors.

So if I have a 4 channel amp, running the front 2 channels passive, will I need crossovers for the rear in order to chop the higher frequencies from playing through the mid drivers? Or is there some other way to keep the rear door drivers from playing the highs?

With a powerful enough amp, would it be possible to run the mid drivers in parallel (front / rear) and use the extra 2 channels to run the front tweets in an active setup? Would somehow need abilty to set level of rear mids.

Are you talking about using...say 6.5" mids in the front doors and another like set of 6.5's in the rear doors playing the same frequencies?

I wouldn't really recommend that. Now, if you are talking about using some sort of midbass from something like 70-200hz or so just in the rear, that might work, but you'd need a crossover on those rear mids and I would run separate amp channels to them.

Depending on crossover slope. You may need to cut lower.
At 12db [many amps use this slope] voices are still there.
You might need to cross closer to 150. So not to pull stage back.
Its been done before.

Ok, so if I got crossovers for the rear drivers, I could use them to run lower mid frequencies only?

Will the crossovers in most component sets do this or do I need to get special corssovers -- or is this done using the HU or other processor?

Yes if this is your plan ,get the 4channel amp.
Most amps have a crossover built in.

You won't get it done with a passive crossover, most likely.

What headunit do you have? And what 4 channel amp? You might be able to do it with the 4 channel amp using the rear channels to drive the rear midbass, and the front channels to drive the 6.5" component set passive depending on how the crossover is in the amp.

You're probably right, I just threw some numbers out there. It'll take some tuning to determine the best cut off point.

Yes, yes, yes! I want to do the exact same thing. I have a 3-way up front and I want to add some mid-bass in the rear but it must not impact the front stage.

I will have 150W per side from an Alpine PDX dedicated to the rears.

Now I have been doing a lot of reading on the type of driver I should get and my head is spinning!

Can you guys please give me some advice based on the following criteria:

1. Speaker size 6.5 - 7"
2. Price no more than $400 for the pair
3. Should be high quality/SQ since I may use them up front later in an active 3-way set-up

Thanks!

Check out the SDX7's!

Do a search on here for them! Lots of good reviews.

I do not have any personal experience with these but there are some members on here that have. This will be my next midbass upgrade!
