Default Questions About H701 Install

Thinking of buying the 701 to run with my 9887. This will be a 3-way front stage plus subs.
I'm a little confused about the Ai Net connection. I don't think the 9887 has a Fiber Optic Cable connection.
Is this Ai Net cable an all-in-one connection? Is it the only connection needed to the HU?
Or do I need the Ai Net plus a RCA connection from the 9887?

You should only need the ai-net.

The RCA's are there for headunits that don't have ai-net or optical cable.

Are you sure? I have optical/ai-net. Optical sends digital (CD). Ai-net sends analog (ipod/radio/etc). At least, that's what I always thought...

No, you're correct Erin. With an Alpine HU analog audio goes through Ai-Net.

x2.
You only need the Ai-Net cable from the HU to the H701.
You only need RCA's inputs for non Ai-Net HU's. Plus the C701 to control it.
And you only need optical for CD/DVD audio if you want 5.1 or "less noise" like for competition.

To a point you're right.

But have you ever compared the sound between optical IN on a H701 and Ai-Net in?

BIG difference in FAVOR of Optical In.

Yes I have, and totally agree with you.
That's what's holding me back from getting the W505.
Need optical.

We've got a fix for it. It just costs $65.

After doing the A/B comparison over the Winter I'm ditching my 9855 for a 9861.....W200 if I get a newer car with a double Din opening.

I WILL NOT use analog in on that unit for ANY reason.

I have a CHA-S624 for Optical out but that does nothing for me when when I stick a CD in the dash.

Your 12 ft Toslink didn't have that goofy 4 pin connector on one side.

Noup.
Just Toslink.
But I could buy 14 Toslink cables for the price of one of those.
It's just not right that you have to pay $65 for one cable, to have an ALPINE HU work with an ALPINE processor.
