how about a tutorial on gain setting? there seems to be alot of misleading info. from what ive found anyway. how do those of us without an Oscope set gains the correct way?

I believe that gain setting is very much a personal preference. How much distortion can you tolerate, and how noisy is your amp's input stage?

That's a good topic suggestion though and I'll definitely try to write something up.

yeah, a good tutorial on gain setting would be nice. can you make it so that the tutorial is geared for a 1amp setup and a multi amp setup (level matching).

I will try and get to this one tonight... unfortunately it's going to involve alot of measurements and what not to better illustrate my points.

Nasty_totoro from the CAF had a CD you could download where he explained the different levels of clipping, and you would play whichever track corresponded to the level of clipping you wanted, and you just turned up the gains until you heard distortion.

I don't think I have it anymore, though...

I know I am bad :) Will have some free time coming up after next week in which I will take care of the many promised articles.

Totoro's gain setting site was very good though. That is essentially how you'd want to set your gains Imho... by ear and using a variety of test material to determine what your tolerance to distortion is.
