I (after install) will be tuning this system for my Nephew.
I'm a TOTAL Nuub' when it comes too this. BUT! I have available too me some VERY HIGH end equipment. A oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer. (think in the .25 of millions) So after asking for so much help from this forum, i thought i would offer too give something back. This thread will be open too anyone that has tuning experience. I would ask Nuubs (like myself ) too read and enjoy the info, but please don't clutter the work with allot of questions. (thats what i'm here for)! This equipment i can use is not even (some of it) for sale yet My only point, If there are things tuners wanted too know for car audio, but where out side the scope of the best units in car audio, this is Prob. your best chance too find out. These two units can tell things about frequency/time ect ect that we don't even know we want too learn. (honest) So that brings me to this thread, i will take pics, run test, What ever there seems too be a need too know. The car im going too tune Is a Golf with a active front RSD's running on a Eclipse 4ch 60x4. The head unit is a new alpine 9887 The rear subs, JL w6's. I'm interested in detailed suggestions on what is ideal for a car system, Time/Frequency/stage..ect ect. What type of tricks we can do with this equipment too improve those. And any request from the Guru tuners about things they always wanted too know. |

Ill start with a question:
If you had this equip. too use, how would you use it too improve your sound system? Say you were going too enter a SQ event, and needed too get a great tune, were would you start with this equip.? Thats a good place too start i guess. |

Cant take what????? The fact that you two aren't smart enough to know what the hell can be learned with some time on this equip??? Funny how people just feel the need too show their ass when they don't have anything too say productive. |

Now, to answer your question...
Seems to me like you simply have an RTA and O-scope at your discretion (however expensive they are). If there's more to them than the norm, then I think you might have to post a specific mfg/model # so we can get an idea of the capabilities. If not... There's a lot of threads on RTA's here, so if I were you, my first task would be to see what others have done with RTA's. The o-scope could be used to set gains with more flexibility. When I asked for a tutorial on using o-scopes I didn't get much feedback due to the extra equipment needed. If you do a search for 'oscilloscope' and look around, you'll find that thread and possibly some ideas for you to pursue. |

I'll give you that, i skipped grammar in High School. I know this. I was a 80's kid. I'll try too do better. I have a 250,000++$ Spectrum analyzer And a oscilloscope that's over 100000. These are new 2008 versions. But what i really don't know..... what i can use them for when it comes too Car audio? I'm sure with some creative thinking, people can come up with ideas. If not, i will play with them alone in the dark depths of a garage.

As much as I'm sure you do know... maybe you don't...
You know what an RTA does, right? Your spectrum analyzer seems to be a glorified RTA of sorts. In a nutshell, I just can't think of any 'different' ways your tools can be used differently or how they would garner different results. Things may have better resolution, or more processing, etc, etc. But, in the long run, I just can't think of anything that you could do that would make your results different. Or, maybe I just don't understand what you're asking. ![]() Oh, and I didn't mean to come off as an ass in my first reply. I was just joshin with you, man. For future reference, "too" should be used when you're saying using it in place of "also", or something is in addition to. I doubt it matters, but just showing what I was talking about. |

Well for one Can you use a RTA, hook up a set of probes to the speaker wire and get detailed reading from the the wire without using a mic? Can a RTA monitor 4 ch of sound at the same time? Telling you time, freq. Can a RTA show a real time dot on the screen, and show sound freq. real time as they happen off of 4 channels? able too move the point around the inside of the car? My point is, there is allot of things that may be read, that a rta wont have a clue in reading. Can a RTA pick a spot on the windshield, and monitor reflective sounds? So i have too admit, i tried to, best i could, explain that there is a chance here to explore some new ideas. ( i don't know what they are, im a nuub) Instead people decided it would be better to correct my known bad grammer and be rude. So i guess my lack of grammar excludes me from begin able to offer anything positive, like the free use of this equip. for the DIY forum to learn something. Sorry i asked..... BTW: A Yale Grad. might correct you on this "For future reference, "too" should be used when you're saying using it in place of "also", or something is in addition to" But really who gives a crap! |

If someone paid $350,000 for that equipment I have some test equipment that I would like to sell them...
$100,000 for an Oscope to measure audio freqs is the height of ignorance. $250,000 for a spectrum analyzer that operates in the audio spectrum is also blissful ignorance. Quote:
