Bottom line, what are you opinions/recommendations on the 325.1 Rockford Fosgate? What are your opinions on the Focal 27V2 (should I keep this sub and just add another)?
I listen to Dave Matthews, Radiohead, The Beatles, Iron and Wine, Jack Johnson.... In my quest for SQ perfection, the only aspect that I have doubts/issues on are my subwoofer. I currently have a Focal 27v2 and it is being powered by a Rockford Fosgate 325.1. It is in a generic slanted enclosure but I don't know the size. The rest of my system is perfect running 2 Sinfoni 150.2x's bi-amped to Morel 3-way 6" elates. The bass is present but doesn't blend well. One song it's too loud the other barely audible. Also, it's maxxed. The gains have a little more room (it's about 3/4 up) on it but I was under the impression that all the way up is bad. The deck (CDA-9887) has it maxxed. I know that I need tuning, was going to go with the Imprint (will this help?). Any recomendations? Money isn't the problem. I am not going to spend money (anymore) if there is a doubt. I want the best and understand that there will be opinions rather than fact but I would like to hear them.. |

I'm not sure I understand the train of thought here...
You've gone all out on the front end, and kinda pissed away the bottom... (not trying to be harsh ) Why would you go Sinfoni and Morel and then RF and Focal? Then to top it, you just threw the sub in an "unknown" box and called it good... Have a spec box built for the focal(or build it yourself) and come back with your observations of it.. I bet you'll be happier.. Oh, and follow a$$holes lead |

"download WINISD and model a box.
is your Alpine HU on +15 in the bass settings?" The fact is that I don't really know. I am managing asking these questions (desperately) on this forum while attempting to work. I truly appreciate your knowledge and understand that it would be best to learn it all myself. I have no time for myself except for the drive (about an hour one way) to work. Please be patient with me (even name a price if it is genuine help) as the information fascinates me....but I don't have the luxury of fascination. I'm going to try to explain the setting the best I can. I was under the impression that the bass section unlocks with the imprint/multiq (right?) but it is maxxed in the crossover portion. I guess I could go into the eq (3 band parametric and turn it up....but everywhere you turn the general consensus has always been "always turn eq down, never up" is that true? I actually have a pile of equipment in my garage because of bad (read: no) research on my part. I do work about 70 hours a week and am a full time single dad and soldier so I'm doing my best when it comes to research but I realize that I am falling behind. |

How much have you consulted the manual of the Alpine?
I'm not good with alpines as of yet, but that is a good place to start.. Have the faceplate in hand and read through the various sections of the manual, follow along on the faceplate to get yourself acuanted properly.. Sometimes reading it and doing it at the same time helps ME a lot.. I think A-hole is eluding to the overall bass level in the crossover... not so much the EQ section From what i'm gathering, Alpines levels go from 0 (full output) to -15 |

Right now, there is no telling what will fix the issues, we aren't there to go through it with you... More power to may indeed help.. you could be just "underwhelming" it with a lack of power.. |

Just quickly playing around with the 27V since it was already loaded, WinISD shows a 1.1 cubic foot enclosure for a .707 Qtc. If I recall correctly, the V2 has a little more Xmax and a little lower Fs. 325w is enough to exceed the mechanical capabilities of that sub in a 1.1 CF sealed enclosure, according to WinISD.
Alpine uses a backwards numbering system for sub out. Press in the volume dial and turn it until it is set on 15 which is actually zero. If it is set on 10, for example, you are really at -5. |

A little more power would help and a proper enclosure would help, but don't go wasting money on a Sinfoni for your sub. It's a sub. It's got a tiny frequency range. It doesn't take a great amp to power it, just something with pretty good damping and some headroom.
There is nothing wrong with Focal. They make some of the best stuff in the world. That sub is rated for 300w RMS (probably conservative). Personally I think double the power of your comps is a good match for your sub, but obviously you aren't happy with it. Those Sinfoni's also put more than just 150w too. You could try to hit the sub with 500-600w and see if that works for you or you could also get a sub with more output and a new amp to boot. I think just a little more power will do. Someone was selling a DLS A6. That's all the SQ you'd ever need for a sub and then some. It's also got the power you'd need. |
