I'm just starting today... this could easily take a week but we'll see how much I can get done this weekend.... here is the specs on my new system:

Alpine 9855
Memphis MCH1300D
2 12" TC Sounds TC2+ in a down-firing box
Dayton RS180-4 + Dayton RS28A in uber custom door pods... more on that later

Here is my sound deadning after it's been layed down.. I already did the cargo area awhile ago but here is the passenger area with 1/2 gallon of Spectrum

so how is road noise now? improved?

I'm not sure yet,... I've only driven to the store about 1/4 mile away and it's still missing the carpet... ohh and the holes in the doors don't help, I can tell I'm getting noise straight through them since the outer shell isn't deadend... I'll be on the freeway tomorrow and the rest is going in this weekend (at least the front stage, the second TC2 isn't in the mail yet). Once it's completed I'll cruise somewhere with the stereo off and see if there was an imporvement...

the gray mat stuff is anti-fatigue matting from home depot... I used it basically as a medium to carry the liquid sound deadner

whoa you sure love liquid deadener :) , that "splat" is the reason I didnt use it this time lol, my concrete driveway was far to expensive lol, to get redone

thx for the pics

how many layers did you do by the way? I used cascade vbx on my older truck, and I had to do like 3 layers on my door panels, they sure were heavy though

I live in an apartment so I don't care about the splat... if it wasn't a slum I would have tried to get a hose... spectrum cleans up quickly with a hose...

ohh and I used 1 THICK layer, hand applied, smoothed and spread with a brush then dried by sticking a ceramic space heater in the car on full tilt with the windows up... it was about 80% dry when I layed the jute down.... it'll be done drying in the next couple days but it's my only vehicle....

I will have more exciting pics this weekend... I'm imagining a rather nice baffle setup for the Daytons which will replace the peices of the paneling I've already messed up on the doors.... my intention is to create an OEM look to the baffles with viynl and grill cloth...

I suck at making things look good though, so we'll see... it'll likely be 100% functional and 80% cosmetic.... but we'll see, I have a router, circle jigs and a circular saw now to compliment my table saw...

What happens when the foam in the doors gets wet??? Isn't there a chance of it causing rust? It looks like Ester foam?

The install started today with me putting together a workbench when I did this:

I didn't really think about the rust... I suppose all you would have to do is sound-deaden or paint the panel to prevent rust

Just make sure you dont cover the holes in the bottom of the door to let the water out.

yah, it'll still drain, the foam doesn't get to the very bottom of the inner door....

yay... it's next weekend and the door baffles are under construction.... my fiance said "Is that something you made???" with a sound of shock... just because the edges are done with a router then sanded.... :) I'll get pics up soonish... maybe I can get at least one side and the sub box done tomorrow

That cat doesn't know what's in store for it. You show us the before shot, but not the after shot with the cat 12 feet in the air, claws out, and fur sticking straight up?

hehe my days of cat torture are over...

Anywho... I learned about contact cement tonight... and why you should:

A) use it outdoors...
B) Read the directions
C) have a heat gun
D) Do it in the daylight, not at 1AM in your apartment
E) my head hurts, I need a resporator... :(

So now I go to sleep, lightheaded, with my window and door open with fans pushing air through the apartment...

I came, I saw, I was conquered by the vinyl...

So now I need to re-do BOTH baffles and take a different strategy with the vinyl... I will make all three parts, vinyl them seperatly and then assemble them... hopefully this will yield better results... also I am going to buy different contact glue, mine says "gel formula" and it's kind of clumpy...

anywho

Round 2 of my vinyl was better, I used non-gel glue and vinyl each part seperately... It turned out much nicer... ohh and most of those bumps on the ring went away when the glue dried a little better they pressed right in and stuck

That turned out pretty nice.....I can't imagine how difficult complete circles can be to vinyl...

Only thing that might have also worked would've been this: Instead of seperate mounting rings on top, perhaps a one piece baffle that mimics the shape of your base baffle...make sense? Like a smaller cutout of the baffle that you mounted the rings to...Might make it a little easier to vinyl w/less curves.....

Great job!

Jeremy

yah I though about that and I'm not quite sure why I did it this way but I would have actually prefered 2 teardrops stacked. It would have looked better but there was a hole in my door panel I wanted to cover... also the rings weren't bad to do at all... Once I went about doing each peice individually rather than after assembly it went together really easy

ohh and the dimples were cured by using regular contact cemement. The first attempt was the "gel" formula

Thinking of trying the same with my 94 runner. Could you repost the last pics showing the finished product? Thanks
