Default Khail's Subaru Install

Well, I just finished up my new kickpods so I though I'd take a few pics of everything currently in my car. The midbasses are in the doors behind stock door panels, and two of the amps are under the front seats so there are no pics of any of those.

Here's my equipment list:

Pioneer 860MP running active

Seas Neo fabrics in the A-pillars
Peerless 2" mids in kicks
Phass MW160 6.5" midbasses in doors
Arc Series 12" in the trunk, 1.35 cube sealed enclosure

Next VRz4.400 running mids and tweets
Clarion APA4320 bridged running midbasses
PG Xenon x400.1 running sub
Clarion MCD360 crossover

These are just my initial settings, I'm sure they won't stay this way as I'm very new at tuning a 3 way front setup.

Seas are playing 8k and up
Peerless playing ~900-6.3K
Phass playing 63 to ~550, depending on how accurate the amp markings are
Sub lowpassed at 50hz, 24db

On with the pics...

Here's my car, although I have different rims now.

My dash with the 860MP, and the sub level knob for the PG amp

Custom A-pillars with Seas Neo Fabrics, excuse the dirty windshield!

New kicks I just finished up for the 2" Peerless fullrange drivers

This is what you see when you open the passthrough between the rear seats

And the trunk, still have easy access to the spare. I made a foam insert to hold the tools that sits inside the spare tire. Under that there is another similar insert which holds a tire gauge, wheel chocks and a lugnut socket. And yes I know the sub isn't straight.

Looks good! How is it sounding with the 2"mid in the kicks and the tweets in the a pillars?

Thanks everyone!

It sounds good to me, but I haven't done much tuning yet and I still need to play with all the x-over points, especially between the midrange and midbass. The tweeters are crossed pretty high, so I'm still getting stage cues nice and high and I'm not really hearing any separation from the midrange. I started off crossing around 5k and I didn't like it nearly as much. This is my first 3 way front stage so I have a lot of learning to do. Also the first time I've tried glassing kicks, they came out fairly good after putting on the carpet. At first I wanted to paint them but getting them perfectly smooth wasn't going to happen.

So far, the Peerless mids are impressing me. I thought initially that I would have trouble getting enough output from them, since they have a fairly low sensitivity (85db). I'm not playing them very low however, so I have the ability to get them more than loud enough to keep up with everything else.

A few questions...

year model?

What kind of MPG are you getting?

and finally what Phass mids are you using?

2002 Impreza 2.5RS, I get 20-23 MPG around town with a fairly heavy right foot. I have the Phass MW160 Neo mids, I believe the same ones that you have from the HR set.

Made by a company called Orciari, they are replicas of the headlights used on the WRC cars several years ago. I have upgraded them to HID and they really have amazing light output.

Thanks, I'm not a big fan of the grill either. It's probably the flashiest thing in my car, but at the time it was the only grill I could find. At least I sprayed it flat black! I have one of the Boston black mesh grills that came with the Pro Series subs, I just need to make it fit. I have to cut the opening in the trim piece bigger.

I got that at Sears on clearance a couple of years ago, I think it was like $20. I bought it just to keep in the car for emergencies. One time my other Craftsman ratchet took a dump, and I borrowed the one out of my trunk until I could go to Sears to replace it. I think that's the only time I've used the tool set!

I see two other important things that I always carry with me as well:
1. torque wrench
2. extra quart of mobil 1

BTW, Great looking install. Maybe instead of the gray trunkliner carpet you should go to joanne fabrics and get some black vinyl that closely matches your interior. That'd be a much nicer look. And not too expensive either.

Also, you're car is beautiful. Good work making it look clean. I like. Now it just needs one thing...turbo

04 Mazda6 S Stick: Alpine CDA-9887 - RF Power T4004: Dayton RS28 (in kicks) and Dayton RS180 (in doors) active - RF Power T3002: Variety of subs - Kicker Hyperflex 1/0

Right you are. I thought that is what you were running, but figured I would make sure. Did you run the set up 2 way....if so what big changes did you notice?

Actually it's out of an older Legacy. The Forester one is similar, but it is silver.
