Default 2007 Audi S8 Bang & Olufsen

I searched and didn't see any discussion of this car, so I want to start some. I was just cruising ebaymotors and stumbled across the best install (in my opinion) ever. It's a stock $6300 option on the Audi s8. The tweeters and speaker grills are incredible.

I want to know how it sounds, I wonder if the Audi dealer has one? Probably takes driving up in something really nice to get a listen in that car.

Has anyone else listened to this upgraded B & O stereo?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-...em#ht_5870wt_0

Nice touch with the stealth waveguide tweeters, doesn't sound exceptional though...

Have you listened to the system? Is it available in any other models? I see there is a less expensive B & O option for the a5/s5. Hmm...maybe there will be in a 2009 A4.

I bet the Bowers & Wilkins setup in the new Jag is pretty insane as well, as far as stock setups go. I read up on it a bit and they seem to have developed the interior of the car around the system. That, and I LOVE B&W home stuff.

Yup, used it for a while. Height and image placement are decent, but as expected dynamics were lacking.

Here's a vid. You can see the motorized screen and tweets near the 2 minute mark. The car uses the same V10 as the Lamborghini Gallardo. Pretty slick.

I had a chance to listen to the Jaguar XKR with the B&W system and it didnt blow me away.

First, I got to play my own music through the ipod cable so I know the music is recorded with Apple Lossless and how the music is "supposed" to sound. The first thing I noticed was how "up front" the bass sounded. It felt like it was coming from my feet. I asked the salesman and he assured me the 10" "high output" subwoofer was in the trunk under a bulge right behind the rear seats. I was confused but thought he should know his stuff. I later researched and found out there is a sub under the dash

It just wouldnt get loud and was nowhere as clear as my car. It just sounded like a very poorly tuned system. In some recording, the stage was very low and then just rose up. Very confusing. I have a feeling it was caused by the rear-speakers and me not used to hearing sound from the rear. I didnt have enough time to try with the fader to the front. I wonder how it would sound with a V-8 rumbling in the background.

The speakers looked great and the doors felt heavily deadened and I believe it is the sexiest Jag ever made.

Sorry for the thread jack.

I heard the B&O system in the S8 at the Chicago Auto Show. It was nice but I really expected more. It was harsh at times and as mentioned before, dynamics were lacking. I could also hear a considerable amount of door resonance when the volume was turned up. I can't remember where I heard it but someone described B&O as the rich man's Bose. Pretty much sums it up, lol. I also heard somewhere that the midrange they use is just a modified TG9. Don't know if that's true though. Bottom line, if you can afford the A8/S8, I would say it is worth another 6k just for the coolness factor alone. Just go to your local Audi dealer and ask to audition it. I'm sure they'll let you.

Just did some reading, and found that the same $6300 option is availible in the Audi Q7 SUV. I will have to go straight from work (while in my suit), for an Audi salesman to believe a 22 year old can afford an S8 (it'll have to be a used one, hopefully sub $70k).

I have been driving the same car since I was 16, and have been saving for my next car the whole time. Now I am working full time at an invesment consulting/advisory company. I am certain my superiors will feel I am making too much to warrant a $60k car, but I have no kids or mortgage, I just need to feed myself and make car payments!

Maybe an S5 will be less pretentious than the S8, but I'm a full size sedan kind of guy (6'3"). I won't be purchasing this until March '09 at the earliest, so I have time research. I will audition the Lexus LS, but even if I love the sound, I think the AWD Audi's will win with the driving conditions where I live.

"Video no longer availible" - Boo. I will have to wait to see it in person. I somehow doubt the local Audi dealer has any though....I live in a relatively low income city. There is only 1 Audi dealer within 100 miles.

No offense but I hear comments made like this nearly every day. Everyone loves to talk about what they are going to get but it 95% of the time never follows through.

This just sounds like a "Look at me, Im 22 and I want to brag about being able to afford an expensive car".

Well it sounds like you are either living with your parents or renting an apartment so maybe purchasing a $60k car isnt the best investment on your part. And that's a little ironic considering you work at an investment firm.

Why is this thread in the install section???? I mean, this should be in the gen section or off topic. Since we have an ADM that loves to make sure to toss other threads into other sections now...........hmmm

Below $200 though, which these days doesn't seem to be much, I think you're still climbing toward the peak of the performance/value curve, and beyond $300 you're really on the downward portion of the curve for a car.-Npdang

^^^^ agreed, why invest 60-70K on a car that depreciates the second you drive it off the lot? Go save your money for a house, your about the age where you shpuld be thinking of that. Now that is an investment. You can get a damn nice car for 1/3 or even less of the price. I bought my 2006 Maxima used with 6k miles on it 2 years ago for 24K, now-a-days you can get one with low miles for around 18k.
Also your super S8 is a v10! goodluck with paying for premium gass at around $4.50 or more for that gas guzzler.

One more thing, the Audi S8, V10 engine and all, is only 1 second faster in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile than my nissan maxima, which is also a full size sedan (I'm 6'5"). But the S8 is triple the price......

Hmm. some people on here have a problem with young money. Sorry if I upset anyone. I don't want a $30k Maxima. The 2009 Maxima is hideous. I don't think a used S8 will depreciate too much when I drive it off the lot. Besides I would probably keep that car forever, getting every last penny of enjoyment I can out of it. I want a nice big v-8 or v-10 while they are still being made.

As for buying a house, why? I don't want to mow the lawn, plant a garden, pay property taxes. I have my whole life to do that, I won't have another chance to spend $1000/mo on a car for a long time. By that time cars will be lame with the diesel hybrid Mercedes F700 on the way, I'm sure most manufacturers will follow in that trend.

As for the 95% of time people don't by what they say they are. That's why I started a discussion, to see what better options there would be, probably why most people tsay they are going to buy something before they do, to get others opinions.

And for those of you who are jealous of young money, go back to school and get a degree or two. I worked through my BBA and MBA in 4 1/2 years to be where I am today, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA that's how you make money to afford nice toys, education. education is the best investment.

I rarely make a thread on here, and I was asking a question concerning some modeling of a pair of 8" drivers ported. I'm faarrrrr from a NOOB-20 plus years and going. My thread was tossed into the general section as if it were some type of noob question.

But looking at some of the threads that are in the "tech" section, they should really be in the gen section, but I digress.

Then, threads like this are allowed to continue on for two days in the wrong section. Clearly, in the wrong section.

As I stated, I rarely make a thread on here and when I do, it's because I truly want some other take on a situation. Most of the time I'm reading or digging up information from the "good ol' days". But my time here is clearly more limited now days.

Nobody is jealous of you ahahah. I didnt say go buy a maxima, I was just making a comparison for what 1/3-1/5 of the money gets you, which is alot. (How are you going to feel when a dodge srt-4 whizzes by your V10)

As for the car not depreciating...all i got to say is LOL every car depreciates right off the lot, expecially a 90K V10 ahhaha. Who would want to buy that off you if you needed to sell??? nobody but the dealer.

As for telling people to go back to school, thats just low, because obviously your not making the big bucks as you state, or very educated at all, because anyone with a head on their shoulders knows that a car is not an investment, but a house ALWAYS is. You dont want to mow the lawn?? good reason to not invest in a home. If you make soo much money pay somebody to do it for you. Your entire last post is a contridiction, first you say you want the car while you can afford it, then you say your so smart and loaded with your degrees so it doesn't matter. So which one is it??

I hope you have about 25K for the down payment because thats the only way your getting a payment of about 1000 a mon on a 5 year loan. Think about that, 5 years from that point next year you will be what 28-29. But you will still be paying off that 1000/mo vehicle and not able to afford a home at nearly 30 years old.

And why would you want a 90K car when our renting or living with your parents?? Thats just brings us back to just how smart are you....

Nice grammar, I couldn't even finish reading it. I am off to find a new forum. I started this thread to get some opinions on the sound of this system, not to have people flame me for having money.

Why is this the wrong forum? The topic to be discussed is the stock install of the Audi.
