Default WuNgUn-PIC'S-Teaser HVAC control replacement (I.C.E.)

Well, with plans on having my carputer run my HVAC (except for A/C, defrost and recirculate buttons...for now), I decided to make better use of the control knob console on the SVT Focus, which no longer will be needed...

In the center is the programable Griffin Powermate multimedia knob (volume, mute, scroll, hibernate, ect.)...
Flanking it are left and right VU meters...
All backlit in blue, of course!
Enjoy these pic's...more to come as development/building continues!!

Sorry for the blurry images BTW...

The stock Focus setup is vent control in the center, temp on the left, and fan speed on the right knob...

That's pretty cool. I've thought about getting the PowerMate in the past, but I finally decided to just leave the audio output from my PC at full volume, and control the volume thru my EQ instead after I had a software hangup that caused the PC to go to full volume and nearly blow a couple speakers (luckily it happened while I was in the garage working on setting amp gains and was able to pull out the RCA's before anything got damaged). I'm intrigued at the idea of controlling the HVAC via the PC. I've seen RS-232 interfaces to trigger relays, but not sure how to go about controlling the potentiometers for temp, etc. I suppose you could use a series of relays and resistors to get some form of variable control, with various "notches" on the dial which kick relays on and off in certain combinations to get a certain output resistance. Or maybe there's something out there that I'm not aware of yet lol.

I could use one of those at work. I have no idea how I'd program it, though, and I think the IT department would object.

However, you made your own iDrive

And here I thought, it's not what you use, it's how you use it! lol
Maybe I need a bigger 'device' than the next guy...
