View Full Version : My Neon
Here are some pics of my 2000 Neon. The install pics are from last years system (which has been sold). The install was nice and simple, but did the job I needed it to, sound good. I was lucky enough to win at the IASC finals in 05 with it. But this years project is much more invloved (I'll post pics of this years "under construction" pics if anyone is interested).

I like it a lot. But the pictures are a little small. Is that a sub box with plexi or is it IB? I can't really see. If the former, do you have any issues running the subs front firing when the back seat is up? Most of the cars I've done that in don't sound as good as running them rear firing. I wonder if part of the reason is because the cars I've done it in tend to be on the large size.

Regardless of whether you are running sealed or not, you should always seal off the front of the woofer from the trunk when you face them forward. This will force the subs to play through the seat and the sound won't bounce off the seat and go into the trunk.

Yeah, I suspect that to be the culprit. Whenever I've been faced with that problem, even running sealed, simply turning the box around or moving it to the back of the trunk has solved the problem, presumably by keeping the reflected waves coherent. Your solution makes sense.

Anyway, nice install. I'd love to see larger images though. Not crazy about that body kit but I won't hold it against you.
The subs are in a sealed cabinet. And the trunk was completly sealed from the cab area. There really wasnt much difference between the sound when the seats were up. But I have a feeling that has a lot to do with the sealed trunk area. If you listen to a car with forward facing subs you might notice that the bass gets louder with the trunk open (lots of cancelation). I sold all the speakers and install for $600 right after the finals.
Sorry about the small pics, I've just learned how to post them.
Looks very nice. I'm not too crazy about the bodykit neither but it looks clean. I like it.

Nice....neat trick w/the HU in the armrest cover....
Body kit's not bad though larger wheels may have made it stand out less....

It's actully not the head unit. It's the controler for my H701. This location gives me total stealth and dosent take up any usable room. I made the controler removable so that I could tune the car with the controler in my lap.

It's actully one of the few things in my car that I'm not changing. Works pretty well.
I think the body kit looks good!

How did you do in Finals?
Are you going to keep the same locations and rebuild it with new speakers or redo the whole install?
Rob
I won finals last year. My install for this year is pretty involved. Lots of little tricks and stuff that will hopefully get me a few creativity (system enhancements) points. But I havent decided what class I will be in so all the work may be in vain. The photos of my car show my 2-way Quart system (kickpanel mounted mid and "A" pillar tweet) but this year I changing to a 3 way. I will still use the kicks but I will also be using other locations. Last year I used 2 Quart 12" in a sealed cabinet. This year I'm going IB. So I have way too much work to do.

Very cool controller place, you said its removable so you can tune from your set.....how does that work exactly....is it just a faceplate, or what? I havn't messed around with the H701 controller, but eagerly looking for a H701 combo to use myself, i may pull something off much like you did, but in the glove compartment, or up near my sunroof controls.
In this years install I'll be using 2 Alpine Type X 12" subs. They should do a good job in IB.
The controler for the H701 is just like a face plate. Only there is a cable attached to it. Buy putting mine in the armrest it gave me a place to put the unit and fit all the cable that I needed to tune the car. I actully left enough cable to allow me to put the controller outside the car. Which helped me get good RTA scores.

I think the body kit looks good. It is hard to get kits to look right on sedans. Coupes are a lot easier. But your car looks nice.
Thanks.
I should be posting some "under construction" pics of the new install soon. I'll also try to put in some how to's.
