Now you can do just about anything with it!

A little SAX-100.4 history:

SAX-100.4 -- Original model
SAX-100.4B -- Updated crossover ranges
SAX-100.4C -- Upgraded from 50-amp to 70-amp power supply transistors
SAX-100.4D -- This is the newest model

-----

The following functionality will be had with the crossovers:

ALL CHANNELS:

Subsonic @ 10 Hz - 500 Hz (always on, can be used as the HPF for a band-pass setup in conjunction with the LPF)
HPF @ 50 Hz - 500 Hz w/ x10 button (selectable 12dB / 24dB slope)
LPF @ 50 Hz - 500 Hz w/ x10 button (selectable 12dB / 24dB slope)

-----

So, what will you be able to do with the new model that you couldn't do before ?

1) You can bridge the amp and actively band-pass a midrange / midbass thanks to x10 functionality on both HPF and LPF on both sets of channels.

2) You can cross-over tweeters much lower with the 24 dB slopes. I have had several requests to implement this from people wanting to use planar tweeters as well, as these require steeper slopes.

3) You can experiment with overlap with the selectable slopes.

4) Most importantly for reliability and consistency... the small sub-cards that hold the crossovers will be re-tooled as double sided boards instead of single-sided. Almost all problems with previous SAX-100.4s were the result of solder problems on the single sided crossover PCB - as uncommon as these problems were we took care of the source!

All of these changes will result in a bit longer amp to fit the new crossover boards (about 1.5" longer), but will be worth it for the SQ enthusiasts who will appreciate this type of functionality.

Anything is possible - I don't have one on my immediate plans, but if I see demand for it in the future I will work on something.

Pre-Order is the whole amount - but it is open until they get here so you can wait until shortly before to put it in if you like.

Beautiful! For you guys that can actually spend any cash... There's your active front-stage. NICE!

Jacob, forgive me if I asked this before.. did a little search but didn't see this..

Do these amps have differential-balanced in's such as the JL's?

Reason I ask is the outputs from the premium style heads going to oem amps (like my Si) send those. That'd be cool to tap directly to this amp without something in the middle to convert to regular RCA.

sundownz
10-23-2008, 08:46 AM
We did talk about it before and it does not accept that style input. Sorry!

The economy is pretty tight... but I have had quite a few pre-orders for these :)

Hey Jacob, I've probably asked this before, but could the 100.4 handle 3 ohms bridged? Reason I ask, it would complement my 100.2 ever so nicely.

Thanks

What do you have that is 3 ohms ? What is the DCR ?

Boston pro60 component speakers. They are 3 ohm and I'm not sure what you mean by the DCR.

DC Resistance of the coil - should be in the product manual. The web-site has a broken link to the manual so I can't check it myself.

In any event I don't see any problem since they are component speakers that will have an HPF filter enabled.

Anyways, thanks for letting me know. I may be preordering soon. :D

The SAX-250.2 has been delayed for a while. We don't have a good ETA on it at this time - tight credit markets and the slow economy are holding it up.

Nice so it is 100 x 4 @ 4 and 400 X 2 bridged?

Are you considering adding a small foot print full range class D eventually to your product line up?

sundownz
11-08-2008, 05:44 PM
The rating is 320 x 2 bridged.

I am looking into Full-Range Class-D or other high efficiency full-range models later on.

LiquidClen

are these still available for preorder? When is the ETA? also, same footprint as the 1500d?

Until the 21st they are on pre-order, that is the ETA.

They actually grew a little bit for the new crossovers so they are slightly larger than the SAZ-1500D now.

Not all channels have the same output. For example 2x50W and 2x100W would be considered "staggered"

I have two JL Audio 8w7's on the way. They are 3 Ohm (DCR 2.78 according to site (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=1))

How would this amp do with these two subs?

sundownz
11-20-2008, 06:30 AM
I have had people run W7s on the 100.2s without issue. They are pretty close to being a 4 ohm load. Just be sure that you aren't clipping the amp and you should be okay.

I would suggest an SAX-125.2 per woofer over using a 100.4 on both, though. The 125.2 has a beefier power supply and is more friendly to a bit lower DCR loads. Your W7s will also like the extra power.

Yikes! That sounds even loud!

I'm "upgrading" to these two 8w7's from one RE Audio XXX12. I'm hoping these two 8's will be faster, tighter and almost as loud. As I understand it, two 8's have about 10% less cone area than one 12". And that's ok with me... SQ > SPL

I really only want one amp for both subs. I just thought the 320x2 bridged would be plenty. But if you say two SAX-125.2 is best, then that's what I'll buy.

Money sent for two SAX-125.2 amps. Thank you for your time on these boards (this one and caraudio.com). Cheers!

No problem, glad I could help.

I have a few customers with W7s on the 100.2s and they work well so that is why I suggest it :)
