RIP: Peter Jennings

ABC News reporter/anchorman Peter Jennings died last night of lung cancer. For whatever reason, and I don't know why because ideologically I think Dan Rather was a better fit for me than Mr. Jennings or Tom Brokaw, but Jennings was the one I watched when I was around a TV at 7pm. Today I find myself affected by his death more than I've ever been by the death of somebody I've never met. On the morning of 9/11/2001 it wasn't to CNN, NBC, CBS, or that worthless propaganda channel Faux that I turned to find out what the hell had happened to our world. Or even the venerable BBC, though in truth that's probably because my cable provider didn't offer it at the time. It was to ABC and specifically Mr. Jennings. Can there be higher respect paid to an anchorman?
