Too good to be true...
I was thinking to get an alpine spx177r set from ebay but now I will need your opinions guys.
Are the mbquart better components ? What are the pros and cons of each set ?

Aren't those normally like $500-600?
My buddy has those in his Lexus in stock locations. They sound great - very clear at high volumes. However, the tweets in the sails are bright IMO.
EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure if he has those or older Q-components. Regardless, every MB Quart I've heard is bright. Also, I see them on ebay for $300 shipped.

Not really better. But for me personally, I'd take the Q's over the Type X any day of the week. That tweeter can be picky, but it is also one of the best off axis out there!!
Thanks for the link Z!
And those are the QSC set, not the original QSD set. Different coating on the mid and slightly different x-over. You can't biamp the QSC, you can on the QSD. They share the same Ti dome tweet.

they have the qsd as well for 156 more

sure you can bi-amp it...it's not like it's a series crossover...just find the traces in the PCB and grind them off...then solder wires to the first terminal input.
this is "DIY" audio remember :)

I used to own the same set and can attest that it is a really clean sounding set of speakers. That being said the tweeter is really really bright. Will rip your ears clean off if not toned down properly. I used the lowest tweeter crossover setting and still too bright. I also paid a good price a couple years ago for about $230. Personally Id never use them again, detailed yes, but way too bright.

QSC came out in 06??? How did you use it a couple years ago?

You are right after doing a little research and bumping around the old recollection box it was the RSD set. It also came w/ a 1" titanium tweeter. A great deal ikesound is offering.

After all that work you'd be better off going active. No power robbing passives stealing amp power. :p

I suppose those who don't have an active crossover in their deck, or whatever.
Bi-amping is a nice easy way to maintain adjustability just by using a 4 channel amp. Not all of us are privaledged to run active. (and if you are one of those weirdo's who still runs rears, then you'll need external units to do all the crossing).
And if the tweet is REALLY that bright, just use a basic L-Pad to tame it down 6db initially and you can still play with the values on the crossover.
However, i think the tweets are best used off axis...in the a-pillars facing directly inward provides a nice stage. reduces side biasing, and with the rising response still gives a flat overall response.

Wow this is a great deal.
I love those tweeters.
I am going to get a set of these soon and compare them to the PRS set :)

not a bad set but I prefer the Seas aluminum tweeter over the mb quart qsc tweeter.

anyone here have experience with ike sound? Are they a respectable vendor? That price seems a little to good to be true.

I was planning on buying the QSC164 (add a woofer) but for $35 more I can buy another QSC216 set.
I dealt with Ike sound in the past. I bought my DCX 730 from them. I wasn't all too happy since my DCX was scratched up. I wonder if they could do USPS shipping over UPS to Canada?

I just checked out Cardomain and that QSC164 is $199 with free USPS to Canada. GoD I love SD more. I bought a pair of IDMAX12 V3 D2 a few months ago (selling the ID line off) for $200 each with free shipping (even to Canada).
Now the question is *Do I need these* and go active with my 216 set?

That's a comparison test I want to see. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the QCS set soon. I contemplated getting the PRS set but I know with my musical tastes(ALOT of METAL, but also many VERY well recorded highly detailed recordings) I need the detail the Quarts offer.

Just an FYI the IKESOUND ebay store has them for $165 plus 20 shipping. An even better deal at $185
I am having trouble passing them up, but convincing the wife to let me buy the p800.4 from Zfactor was a little work, so probably couldn't get these.

Are you talking about these for $165?

If so, those are just the add on midbasses, not the whole component set. I don't see the whole set on their eBay store.

HMM, could have sworn I saw the whole set, maybe just my mind playing tricks on me.
How about this as a deal then?

Has anyone played with the QSD AND the QSC woofer? I know the only difference is that the QSD woofer has the PURE titanium coating while the QSC woofer has the titanium alloy coating. Does anyone know if this makes a percievable difference? The tweeters are the same and I plan on running them active so the better crossovers in the QSD set mean nothing to me.
