I know this isn't the greatest multimeter, but it's a decent deal.

nice cheap meter there. i think ill pick up a few of them for the guys at the shop for when i dont want my fluke's out and about for people to mess with imo they are to much $$ for simple tasks where they could be damaged...

Great deal here, I'm picking one up. In store pick-up is GREAT. They have a board that tells you what percentage of people were completed in < 5 minutes and at my store it's usually around 95%. I was in and out for my magnetic protractor on Friday in around 2 minutes.

Edit: Total: $13.12

I'll pick it up Monday. ;)

Can someone tell me the most popular reasons to use one of these devices for car audio?

Finding a switched accessory power wire, checking to be sure you're getting power to your amps, estimating amplifier power output, checking to be sure subs are wired to the correct impedance. This is basically a necessary tool to have on hand for doing ANYTHING electrical.

You can go in there and ask the salesman if they have it. Tell them you seen it in an ad. Sometimes they will give you the sales price anyway. I got my Mechanics tool set, that way.

I use my friend's Fluke all the time.

Will this work for gain adjustments, even though it's not True RMS. I was told that only a True RMS meter would work in that application.

If you stick it in the wall and it reads around 120V it's RMS, if it were reading P-P you's see around 170V, and that's unlikely. True RMS takes into account that in some applications AC may not have a true sine wave. If you are dealing with a sine wave the true RMS and RMS will read the same.
