finally I can start the install on my V70.
I had the same car once, that makes the install pretty easy for me. (pics of the old are HERE)
Inside will be L1proR2, L6SE, for each side a Genesis Profile2 Ultra and a Profile sub for the sub. Which will hopefully be an I10SW when it is available. This will be in the right side of the trunk.
I´ll summarise some posts I did allready in another forum, so please be patient if it does not make to much sense in one thread.
Source for that will be the original Volvo unit, thereoff the RCAs will run into a Helix P-DSP. I hope the signal quality will be good enough, as that car will compete in EMMA.
The nice thing is you can easliy have the RCAs out of the OEM unit when installing a DIN 6pin
Okay, most of you will know how they loo but as they look soooo sweet here are the pics of the speakers:
I am actually waiting for the speaker adaptors to be build for the L6 SE´s. (Had them also in my last V70). I love them adaptors, they are also angeled to the listeners position.
The V70 has 2 storages under the floor. I´ll use the one in the front to install the amps.
But more like this:
As we had nearly 60°F (15°C) today, I used the time to go on with the build, even if the DSP is not here by now. So, here is how I want it to work.
That´s the original place:
And that´s how it shall be then. The Amps as "one", on the picture in front right is the "power side" on the back left the dummy for the DSP.
Overall I´ll have 94cm, one amp including the mounting plate is 33cm, adding up to 99cm. D´oh!
So I´ll have to mount them in a different way. Open up...
...drill some holes...
...soory, maybe that one is clearer.
So, in the heatsink there is space for an M4 bolt now and in the wood for an (surprise) M4 threaded insert.
On this pic it is not inserted completely, for sure.
As the DSP is higher than the Amps I can give them some more air around.
Amps are on it´s final place. I have not mounted them that high as I first meant to. (First pic is while screwing them to show metric screws are used).
Here you see how the screws are placed inside the amps.
That´s how it will later be in the car...(picture taken while finding the correct lengths of the wires- they will not stay like that )
Seems to fit...
So, I can close it. Amps do not have more than 5mm space to the right and to the left.
And now...
As I was bored I also dampened the roof (easy going in that car).
Before installing the speakers I did some damping for sure.
Them Aluminium rings are screwed to the door with M5 nuts and self securing bolts. To give it some more strength I put some glass fibre on it also.
Colour coding the wires meant that I put all the speaker wires in yellow sleeves when I seperated them. Through the car the Tweeter and midrange run in one black sleeve.
And that is it "finished" inside the car. At least on the left side (as you can see on the speaker wire). The right side can only be finished when the DSP arrived.
I started to have a look what the system puts out.
Mmh, good news und bad news...
At first I measured them at seating position (Signal was pink noise via CD, L6SE without any Xover)
left and right:
left only:
right only:
Well, okay I thought. Maybe I have problem with my centre tunnel or foot well or whatever. So let´s do a near field measurement.
left:
right:
Houston, we have a problem.
I like that they are able to play that low, also that they play high enough to have more option to Xover the tweeter. I do like that it does not change that much under angle - BUT what is that at 450Hz?!
It cannot be inside the car as the nearfield would be different. It can not be the door as I espacially did that damping behind the speaker to not have such issues.
WAIT! What is the Headunit doing?
Measured the HU with rca out directly to MIC in:
Ah, that´s the cure. I was aware that this OEM unit might not be on top like actual Pioneers or Alpines but I would not have guessed such an issue!
So, two possibilitys: Maybe I can hide it with an EQ or I´ll have to change the Headunit (which I do not want because of useability.
VERY NICE! I REALLY like those rings for your mids. sorry if I missed
it but who/where is your source and if I may be so bold; how much
was the charge? you can pm me if you would rather.
This is one of my fave systems on the board...... Great job!
My Source for Metal works is "Köhl Material & Sevices", rings like the last ones are around 140€(excl. tax And shipping fees).
He also made the rings in the very First post.
GREAT, thanks for the info. That seems to be a very reasonable price and the work looks to be top notch.
I'm needing to find someone who can make me an aluminum Porsche crest to be drilled and tapped to serve
as my power and distro blocks. I'm sure they could cut it out without any issues. Where I am running into
issues is finding someone to can etch the final product (to look like the emblem and not just a triangle) to
better resemble the crest, if you get my meaning. I could very easily cut the shape but don't think I could
do the etching, be it sand blasting or laser.
Again, thanks for the reply and really like your install on one of my fav cars

Nicely done, sir! I too am patiently awaiting the 10" Imagine sub. Have you heard an ETA on the sub? The last I heard (which was several months ago) was the first part of August, but it must have got pushed back.
At any rate, nice work on both install and equipment choice!
The guys how makes my metal works has a 5 axis machine, able to work with wood, metal and granite. (I had granite as front of my subbox once-> GREAT thing that is!)
AND he has been one guy who made "one of" examples for the car industry AND is into car audio and car audio competitions. So he knows what is needed.
The I10SW will need some more weeks, I guess I will install that one after this years competition season.
