Default Kia Forte Custom Tweeter Sail Panels

After having my tweeters haphazardly mounted in my sail panels for the past 2 months I finally got tired of them sticking out so badly and I've started custom sail panels for them. I'm finishing up the drivers side as I write this. I still have the passenger side to do which I'm not looking forward to doing since this one has taken about 8 hours of work over the past weekend but the results will be well worth it.

I started with applying the bondo in the rough shape. You can't see here but I wrapped the tweeter in wide painters tape around the edge to mold the bondo around.

You can see here that I've started sanding down the excess bondo.

Starting to get the final shape.

Test fitting the tweeter. So far so good.

After primer and paint.

Sanding down the rough spots.

Another test fit.

I wasn't loving the finish that the matte black was giving me. It was allowing to many defects to show through and I was worried that even after a clear coat it wouldn't look perfect.

I picked up some textured spray paint from Home Depot along with some matte clear coat. This is it after just the paint. It's looking great so far. I'm not sure if I'm going to clear it yet. I'm just waiting to see how durable the paint is once dry to decide.

Oh, and here's a quick pic of the sub and amps. I was going to do a custom fiberglass enclosure for the sub but never had the time so I whipped up a box as a temporary solution. The wiring is also a mess but I'll clean that up sometime this week.

Looks good man. I like the flow and lines of it.
The texture paint looks nice, but I gotta admit, I liked the look in primer.

I know it probably doesn't match your interior, but the tweet itself blends very well to the primed finish. Lol

It's actually matte black paint not primer. In pictures I actually think it looks great, but in person it just allowed all the small imperfections to show through and even after a good coat of primer and lots of sanding it was still visible where the plastic ended and the bondo began. I'm sure with a lot of work I could have made it work though.

Ah, my mistake. Lol yeah, matte is terrible for showing those tiny imperfections.
The textured paint looks very nice though... I know pics don't do justice when compared to in person.

Nice job!
