WTB: High End Headunits: Mcintosh MX5000, DRZ9255, Pioneer ODR, Alpine 7990
I want to get my hands on a few of the better known high end headunits to do some testing with.
I'm looking specifically for the following (but not limited to):
Mcintosh MX5000 Headunit (and the MPM4000 would be cool just to go with it)
Pioneer P90ii or P90iii
Alpine CDA-7990
Clarion DRZ9255
Pioneer P99 (I tested this before but wouldn't mind getting a chance to do some different testing again)
I prefer the US version of these decks where possible just to keep things on an even keel.
If you have any of these, shoot me a PM or email me at

I've got a few things on my list outside of headunits that I've wanted to play with so I may not be looking for what you have to offer, but feel free to toss other ideas out there as well.

Guys, I understand what I'm asking for. The reason is to gather some data and also to evaluate them on a subjective aesthetic point of view. A "whole package" takeaway.
If you have an item I'm looking for, let me know. Otherwise, let's try to keep this particular thread clean.

WTB = Want To Buy or Want To Borrow? (borrow of course would indicate that you would use it for the testing and ship it back). I know someone who has the F1 and DRZ. jason's Denon would be a good one to have on the list for sure.

Jason, it's a Want to Buy.
I didn't figure folks would be willing to let me borrow any of these, but I actually had a guy offer up his mcintosh mx5000 for the test so I figured I'd start a separate thread asking if anyone has anything they'd be willing to loan out for the test. High end headunit shootout... this time with data. Looking for headunits.

You can borrow your Pio 800PRS back that you sold me last year, lol. It's just sitting in the box collecting dust since I picked up a P99, can't bring myself to sell it. I'd be curious to see how a head unit at this price point stacks up to these alleged "big dawgs". Can't have my P99 tho
EDIT: if you can find one of those new 80ps or whatever pioneer head units that everyone has been getting and have it go head to head against it's predecessor, that would be nifty too
Erin. What kind of testing are u looking to do? A huge test was done with most of these decks by Jorge (doitor) a few years back. If u do a search I'm sure you'll find it. Also Japan versions would have no effect on testing unless you are testing fm variations from deck to deck

Kirk, that might be kind of cool to see. If nothing else, we can test it just for your info.
Uncle Sam, thanks for the addition. Those are sweet decks and I may get back to you on them.
I've actually started a thread in the general section kind of outlining what I want to do and the purpose. I'm asking for "loaner" decks for the purpose of testing because I've realized that trying to buy all of these is going to cost me a lot of money in the end, even if I am turning around and re-selling them.
And with that, I'm going to close this thread for the time being. Hopefully some folks here can help me/the community out with some loaners but if not, I'll revisit purchasing the ones I need as I near the end of the test.
