Default McIntosh MC440 6-channel amplifier.

Well I've decided to switch my setup around again, and while I'd love to keep my MC440 for a future car I need to free up some funds for other stuff. I've had this running a 3-way front stage and I've been EXTREMELY happy with it.

I bought this here on DIYMA from another member, it's still in the same condition as when I received it so I'll price it the same at $525 shipped. No extra charge for PayPal, I'll cover their fee.

Quote:
MC440 6 channel. 4 channels X 50w, 2 channels X 100w. Configurable for 6/5/4 channel operation. Includes built-in electronic crossover with separate high pass and low pass filters. Power Guard. Ported tunnel forced-air cooling. Multi-stage thermal protection. Dual MOSFET PWM power supplies. Input level controls. Transient protection. Gold plated terminals. 2 ohm stability. Allows internal installation of McIntosh parametric equalizer modules. Size 2-3/4"H, 18-1/2"W and 12"D. Sold from 1994-1997. Last retail price $1300.00
Disclosures:
1. It's missing the glass top. I've been told replacement glass is available directly from McIntosh, but I just cut a piece of .25" MDF to use as a dustcover and I'll include that.
2. The screw holes for the glass top were buggered a little, they were originally standard threads but when I received the amp it had metric screws in it. The screws tighten down fine but this may prevent the use of original McIntosh screws. I'm including 4 button head cap screws and plastic washers that fit the existing threads fine.
3. The setscrew for the negative terminal of the channel 2 output was replaced with a phillips head screw for some reason. It sits below the metal end housing and isn't visible with the aluminum endcaps mounted, but the screw isn't original and I wanted to mention that.

This amplifier has a Squaretrade warranty valid until May of 2010, which looks to be transferable. If you're familiar with Squaretrade's warranties on electronics you'll know that the warranty may or may not be worth diddly, they seem to be extremely picky about what items they'll cover but this does have the warranty nonetheless.

Cosmetically the amp is in good shape other than the mentioned disclosures. Again it's in the same condition now as I received it, I'm pretty careful with my stuff.
It's currently still installed in my SUV, so pictures are limited, but it can be removed whenever payment is made and shipped the next business day. Shipping will most likely be via UPS ground, and is available in the Continental USA only at this time.

Thanks!
-Cory.

I noticed I've got 140+ views and no comments or obvious interest.
I just want to mention that other than the cosmetic issues mentioned, this amp works 100% perfectly and sounds absolutely beautiful.

An MC440 with the glass just sold on eBay for $800 plus $43.40 shipping, so I don't feel my $525 shipped asking price is out of line considering replacement glass should be around $150 and it's purely a cosmetic part (the amp works great without it).
That being said, I may consider partial trades, or offers. Let me know if you've got an interest and we may be able to work something out.

I've gotten some decent trade offers, some of you guys have offered up some good stuff but unfortunately nothing yet that I have a use for.
I realized I haven't given any indication of what I'm looking for, so here are some things that I'm interested in (this week ):

B&C DE500-8 compression drivers, or equivalent- something similar to Image Dynamics Ultras preferably.
Alpine 9887.
Pioneer DEH-P800PRS or 880PRS, pico issue or not.
Pioneer DEX-P99RS.
Polk CS20 home theater center speaker, black.
Mossberg 930 SPX (standard stock), prefer local.
Large rollaway toolbox (something larger than the regular Craftsman ones), prefer local.
Damaged/nonworking/beater jl Slash v1 amp, I just need the black endcaps and screws.
Dick's Sporting Goods or Sears gift cards.
Dual alternator bracket/pulley/belt/plug for GM 5.3L.

That's all I can think of but you guys know how it is, let me know if there's something else you think I might like.

I've got other stuff to throw in for the right trade, or cash either direction is fine.

I've been running a MC440M to power my front stage for a couple years now and I can't say enough good about it. This is a great amp and seems like a good deal at this price. There are a lot of folks who think this model sounds even better than the MCC models, and they are simply built like tanks in nearly every imaginable way.

Another feature that I think is extremely underrated on this amp is the power gaurd feature, which scans the input and output wave forms and when clipping is detected - instantly reduces the output for the slightest of times to prevent its negative effects. You can get a heck of a lot of clean output from these buggers because of this - and essentially you are trading distortion for slight compression of the peaks at the very highest output levels. Its very nice never to hear clipping - but its also a defeatable feature.

Naturally, being a McIntosh - the power is significantly underrated. They are rated to have 1db headroom (which should translate into roughly 30 percent more ouput) and if I recall correctly - the ratings are based on a 12v input power on the MC versions. I like it loud and am happy with what I can get out of my system using this amp.

Just my .02. GLWS and grats to whoever picks this up in advance.

Thanks for adding that, less!
I didn't mention anything about PowerGuard or even much about the amp at all, I guess I just took for granted that people were familiar with McIntosh and the PowerGuard circuitry.
Here's some history on PowerGuard for anyone interested:

Removing the Mossberg 930SPX and Dick's gift cards from the trade list, found out that's what my wife is getting me for Valentine's Day/Anniversary.

Other trade options are still open.

Thanks!

any interest in a like new xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console, only played once cause i stink at video games, the last game i owned was atari , my wife bought it for me for Christmas cause she heard me mention that some of the guys were playing it, this edition has the extra controller and the game itself, as well as double the hard drive size over the elite model, i bought the wireless adapter ($80), and a brand new never used aftermarket brand (turtle beach) head set, its not the real expensive turtle beach head set but im sure its better than the one that comes with the x-box, the console was $426.93 with tax, the wireless adapter was around $80, and i forget what the upgraded head set was, under $50, i also paid for a years subscription which i think was around $50, i dont know if its transferable but im into the whole setup for close to $600
i have the receipt so there is no warranty concern, even if i had to send it in

i have a Mac 440, it would be nice to have a pair though, let me know

Thanks for the info guys.
I haven't personally called McIntosh to check pricing/availability of replacement glass, but I've heard/read $120 and also $160.
