Default Which RTA Mic?

So far I've bought a brand new laptop(came in yesterday and was originally going to be used as a deticated tuning laptop), TrueRTA(1/3 octave), I'm waiting on my 3sixty.2 to get here. I've read the whole thread on the $100 RTA and someone mentioned another mic, the dbx RTA, instead of the ECM8K. Which one is the better of the two or are the any other mics that I should consider for a low price? I'm not looking to spend $800 on a mic unless I had a "real" RTA. Although, for the price of the laptop I could have gotten a real RTA. But, you cant paybills, run the 3sixty.2, chat on DIYMA, or look at porn on an RTA so I went with the laptop.

parts express now carries a calibrated mic that is strikingly similar to the ECM but has been measured to be more accurate.

Is it also made by parts express?

Apparently they are not making them until they can get 20 people ready to buy.

In that case, buy a cal'd behringer mic and call it a day.
Money well spent.

Heck, I've got a spare ecm8000 (non-cal'd) I'm not using. Would be willing to sell it for about $40 if you're interested.

IIRC I don't think you'll be able to calibrate your soundcard with the truerta 1/3 octave version. It's been a while since I bought it but I originally wanted to buy the 1/3 but had to get the 1/6 for its soundcard calibration ability. I'm not 100% possitive about this but you might want to check it out.

Sweet thanks!

Why would I need to calibrate my soundcard if the mic mate is USB?

If you're using the mic mate then you're bypassing your soundcard so just calibrate without looping the in/out on the soundcard. I hope you get a flat line with it. FWIW I was never able to get a flat line using the mic mate with my laptop. I ended up getting a mobile-pre and that solved my problem. Good luck

How are you going about calibrating your sound system when using a mic mate or MobilePre? Connect the mic to the mic mate and then calibrate to the FR of your sound system? That doesn't make any sense to me because you would then be calibrating to your laptop speakers via sweep? Very confused and frustrated here.....

Ah, screw it. I'm just gonna go with a new MobilePre and the dbx RTA mic.

Thanks everyone!
