Enc. Audiophile 1.5 ported, 4" x 15" port, F3:28hz Power handling: 300WRMS VC Dia.: 3" Fs: 37 Hz Qts: 0.36 Qms: 2.22 Qes: 0.42 Vas: 34.1L DCR: 4/8 ohm Mms: 75.13 Grams Sd: 0.0315sqM BL Prod.: 2.92 TM Xmax: 5.5mm P2P Ex.: 26mm Sens.(1W/1M): 88.1db like this ![]() the question is , the port could be like this or must to put in front or behind the SW , we put the port like this is because a large box dont enter in the car , this may afect the performance of the SW ?? or what box you build for this type of SW flat like a ppi , our goal is a box for SQ system thks alot

Based on the parameters you gave for the driver (running at 4ohms) you would only need a .79 cu ft. sealed enclosure (plus allowance for driver)

To Clarify.
The box is built but he does not like the sound?? Assume the box is in the trunk, firing into car, but looks like port is not. This is a problem. Fire port into cabin with sub as same. Make sure to seal the face of the sub and port from the rest of the trunk, so that ALL sound pressure coming from face of sub/port is going into the cabin and NONE into trunk. REALLY make sure the sub and port are firing into the car and that it is SEALED to the bulkhead so that no sound waves get into the trunk. Porting one of these subs should be fine. Generally speaking a sub with a QTS lower than .40 makes a good ported sub. Build a ported box right (thats the key) and it'll outperform a sealed - in most cases. So dont feel like you gotta go sealed. Having said that: you can also do sealed. If you cannot seal the sub/port so that no sound is bouncing around into the trunk (unless this is a hatchback, and then this doesn't matter) then you should go sealed. If sealed I highly recommend making it as large as they recommend for the biggest box. It will play louder lower, and have a flatter response curve. Basically what you want in a SQ (audiophile) I built a sealed ppi Pro 12" (flat) in a 1.7 cu ft box (before bracing, displacement) and it sounds fantastic. No boominess, just fast clean bass. Excellent. Pictures (actual photos) make it easier to provide help. |

Provide the box dimensions and port diameter and I can plug it in to Box Plot and see what size / length port you need- it may just be a matter of tuning the port....

PPI's suggestion looks like an EBS design, but I suspect a simple 1 cu.ft. box tuned to around 37 Hz is likely going to give you most of the capability of that 1.5 cu.ft. box - in a smaller box. I'm going to guess that your friend is not happy with the output, rather than anything else. My recommendation is to use a more capable driver, or use more drivers (e.g. use two of those 10s in a 2 cu.ft. box tuned to around 35~37 Hz), or use an alignment with more output capability (this will mean a bigger box, of course) Finally, that big-ole box is not the best use of space in the back of that hatchback. I suggest going for a nice wedge-shaped design that fits up flush behind the rear seat. |

If you are putting this in a hatchback as pictured....you need to go sealed box all the way!
You will get too much cancellation with a ported box in that environment. |

I already did above-
You can go with a 1 cu ft box and fill as needed with polyfil to get the response that sounds right to you. You can purchase readymade boxes for hatchbacks- They have a slanted side for the back, or you can build one. Here is a .75 cu ft box: Sonic sub Box: 1H10-0.7 (AKA: Metra S110SE) (1h1007) 10" Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Installation & Accessories Car Audio/Video Installation & Accessories Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navi Here is a 1 cu ft box: Sonic Sub Box: 1H10-1.0 (1h1010) 10" Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Installation & Accessories Car Audio/Video Installation & Accessories Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Elect .75 cu ft box will yeild tighter more responsive bass and 1 cuy ft box will yeild more boomy bass- but you can tune with polyfil. Just for a test cover the port and you will see better response... I hope this helps! |

Does he have enough room to try different positions (sub up, port back)?

1. Is this a dual voice coil sub?
If so is it wired in series or parallel? If it is wired in series - can your amp drive a 2 ohm load? 2. Is this the sub you are using? Precision Power PCX122 12" Car Audio Subwoofer 600W NEW - eBay (item 290365093625 end time Nov-29-09 13:23:03 PST) this is for a 12" but if so- they recommend a sealed box enclosure... |

Lookalike one of the famous flat pro 10's that ms. Gates used to real the world title way back in the mid 90's.
If this is the case, I have the specs from PPI for that sub and will look it up tomorrow when I get o the office. As mentioned above, I had the ppi pro 12" that I installed in a friends sentra. He absolutely loves it, but he leans more to SQ. Which is what you state tha you like. My friends sub is fast, musical and Plenty of output. I don't remember the specs for the 10 but for the 12 PPI recommeded 1 c ft at min. 1.5 cu ft for SQ. Soemone mentioned above about smaller - tighter and bigger is boomier....well the opposite has been my experience and I you look at most maufactureers specs the larger the sealed box the better the sQ. Iow plays lower with. A bettrer frequency response. I bet the specs say sealed and for SQ 1.25 cu ft. But I will confiRm tomorrow. |
