This question arose recently, as i am in the midst of revamping my setup in my car. In my younger days, id throw a 4ch amp on whatever coaxials would fit my doors and cram in as many watts and subs as i could afford. Good SQ was not really an issue as i liked to be as loud as possible, to the point where it literally was uncomfortable to sit in my car. One day as i was sitting there at a red light with the feeling of my chest caving in and my car rattling to bits, i had an epiphany and hought, WTF?! is the point of this.
Shortly after, i yanked everything out and sold it which brought me to DIYMA.COM. The information and knowlege here is almost overwelming to a new comer in the world of the quality of sound rather than the loudness of sound(to which i am thankfull). At the moment i have a simple 2 way setup running active off my 880prs and esx quantum 4ch and it sounds better than any other setup ive ever had. im happy with the sound, but happy isnt good enough as we all know. As i have probably read every thread possible on fine tuning, staging, imaging, etc. After spending hours testing speaker placement, eq and t/a, i cant tell a huge difference when trying to fine tune, blend, etc. im sure a good bit is from lack of knowlege but could the beating my ears have taken over the years cause me to never really enjoy how true and detailed real music in a vehicle can sound? Does anyone else have the same problem? |

Yes, I totally know where you're coming from. Years of running loud tools at work took their toll on my ears too.
Tinnitus sucks. |

I would give a car payment a month to someone if I could have perfect hearing back. |

You can make the checks payable to Dave Avino
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRTca2Bf2k0 LOL! One concert standing too close to the speakers and you're ears ring for the rest of your life. Sucks. :-( |

Worked with a guy who said he knew another guy that blew out an ear drum test firing a gun WITH ear protection.

I have not noticed any hearing loss... Not even sure how, guess I never sat in a car that was hitting over about 150db and even the stuff below that was all pretty short time.
Glad I grew out of that, and seemingly in time. |
