Help from anyone using a Phoenix Gold TLD-66 Line Driver, or any line driver for that matter. (Did a search and checked the PG Phorum with no luck.)
My head apparently is up my as$! I cannot fathom how to check the voltage on the output side of the line driver. I'm trying to figure out the voltage that I am adjusting the line driver too. HUGE brain fart on this one, sadly I'm stumped. Thanks all! |

Just do it by ear. If you clip the inputs on your amps you'll know it. I used to run a tld66 and those gain pots are TOUCHY.

Thanks man! I hear you on the gain pots. This has become a quest to figure out the actual voltage in a numerical form. Driving me nuts!

Have you tried playing test tones or pink noise and DMMing the outputs? That would be my first step.

As far as DMMing the outputs, do you mean DMMing the RCA's? (or the output RCA connectors from the line driver) Thanks man. |

DMM and test tones, if you really want to measure the output, but this won't tell you exactly where the outputs clip. Though, Chris does have a point about listening to it... clipping is audible.. at least the clipping you'll be really setting this up for (see * below). Does this particular LD have a clipping indicator? If so, you can probably trust it. Out of every amp or component I've tested thus far for others, the clipping indicators have all been nearly spot on when using my scope and a 1khz 0dB tone to check for clipping. *Keep in mind that a 0dB tone will cause clipping quicker than music. |

I don't really see a reason to check the output voltage. I had a 4.1 that was a line driver and it had clipping indicators on it. I just turned up the gain until the lights would flash then backed it back down a little.
You pretty much want maximum unclipped output from the line driver. |
