Hi, please try to keep these in 1 thread instead of creating multiple ones.

A speaker is only as good as the room you put it in.

when I worked at a car audio place, we built a ported box tuned ~60 hz, threw a big ole DD 15" in there, hooked up a surge protector to turn it on and off... Had a blast, and that thing ROCKED the install bay.
![]() ah, good times... I guess anymore, I spend much more time troubleshooting what could be improved then actually having fun with audio like I used to.

I think you are missing the point of this site. I understand your enthusiasm, but this site is dedicated to those of us who like SQ. Now, I have had my days of but ramming bass, but I was young then. Nowadays, I try to make accurate sounding set-ups, and leave the monster bass to the kiddies. Anyways, enjoy your subs, use them to learn. Remember though, stock speakers and a sub package do not make a high end system. |

I am guilty on one or two occassions of posting up new gear I have gotten. However, to the best of my knowledge I have carried those post further to try and get feedback from others who have run that equipment before, find out what has worked for them, what has been tried, what the limits of the piece are and so on. That said, I have always been amazing and impressed by the amount of knowledge and expereince which this forum possesses, but if those of us who do not know as much as others don't use that knowledge then this wonderful place is no better than any other forum. |

I would say DIYMA is a car audio board, where a lot of the members have something other than pre-boxed components and aren't afraid of messing with their cars. To the OP, one post about the RE8s would be sufficient. Feel free to add to that one post anytime you like, but there's no need to create multiple threads for the same thing. |

if this were true, there wouldnt be such a thing as a sound quality competition. obviously there is a standard for SQ otherwise it wouldnt be possible to compete.

Last I checked not everyone competes...and I'm fairly sure that you have run across systems that the owner felt sounded amazing and you found maybe sub-par...thats why this forum is here, it's a learning experience, that is all I'm trying to say.
While I certainly think that Wolfman and other such people are wasting space when they post up the same gear simply for the sake of posting, it is up to both noobs, myself included, and the veterans to make an effort to help out the rest of us. I know I will probably get shelled for saying this but I feel that some people here have begun to consider themselves above helping out those newer members, and more importantly those who have a true desire to learn and grow. |

right on. I wasnt trying to imply that everyone competes. I know thats not true. I was just trying to point out that there is a standard for SQ.

Is it a published standard or is it just the opinion of judges? I was under the impression that you could play whatever music you wanted and the judges essentially ranked it in comparison to the other vehicles rather than comparing it to some known standard. If my understanding is correct then I would think that the standard for sound quality would change from judge to judge, event to event. I've never competed so I'm just guessing at this. SPL competition I understand (but I don't understand the attraction). Put the specified meter in the specified location, and measure the sound pressure. That kind of competition makes more sense to me just because I'm into numbers. |
