Default 2007 Speed3 Re-Install

Tore the old system apart which consisted of:
JL 500/1
JL 300/2
JL 300/4
JL 12W7
Bit One.1
Dynaudio 362 3-way set of components

Decided to downsize to just (2) amplifiers, inverted jl 12W6 and the Dynaudio 362 set. I did away with the Bit1 and will be using it in another install. The kicks are still my old kicks, but I think I will be moving the two drivers to the "A" pillars in the near future.

Here are the pics of the new install. I hope to have it completed in the next couple of days. I just have to finish the beauty panels and LED lighting.

I like the way you installed the sub. Build logs like this make me even more antsy for warm weather to start my BIG reinstall in my sentra. Looks good mate!

Your not kidding about the warm weather. Its been cold and windy for the whole winter here in the South. A normal winter we would have had some days in the 60's, but not this winter

Thanks. Was tough trying to keep it flush to the floor level and still get the needed 1.2 cubic feet. I will post more pics once I get the beauty panels and lighting completed.

Yea, its color matched. I bought a quart of paint. Sucks too since I barely used any out of the can. I needed to buy the whole quart to just paint that one small part I really hope to get started on moving the Dyns to the "A" pillars next week if the weather will warm up a little.

Very nice work! I'm interested in how you aimed the mids and tweets, as I have a bit older set to install in what I hope will be a pretty similar configuration. What sounded best, in your case?

I never bothered to aim them. I just made a guess since this is just a "beater" car. Just my daily driver, so not really into the major SQ with this one. The Bit One did a great job pulling up the sound stage and centering it quite nicely. I downsized the system some since the car will be going up for sale shortly with the system in it. It still sounds great even without the Bit One in the car. The staging is still about where it needs to be, but its probably just that the Dyns are that good. I had an older set of MB quart 328 3-way set installed before the Dyns, and to be honest, the old MB Quarts could hold there own against the Dyns. I get more midbass from the Dyn 8" than I did the Quart 6.5" midbass but the sound quality was about the same.

Here are some night pics with the LED lighting. I took them with my phone camera, so the pics are pretty shitty. The sub and amp areas look really bright on the pics, but are really a nice deep red and not bright like in the photos

I will get some pics up tomorrow in the light with the trunk finished.

They are fun cars, at least the Speed 3 is. I have never driven the regular 3. The down side is not enough hatch space for a nice audio system. If you are running more than two amps and anything that requires more than 1.25 foot of air space it will be tight if you want to keep it flush to the hatch. I have 70k on the car in two years and have had no problems with it. The alternator is a little week too. It looks like a disco outside when driving at night if I turn it up

Did you have to cut any metal to get the 8" onto the door?

Sweet install btw.

No metal, just the plastic that holds the original speaker but very little. I can still reinstall the factory speaker if needed.

Updated pics with beauty panels in place.
I will be repainting the center panel around the amps and sub. I tried to buy spray paint that I thought matched the wheels, but not even close. I guess I will go and buy automotive paint. Sucks the smallest you can buy is a quart.
Anyway, here are the pics. The panels left of right of the center panel is black carpet to match the factory carpet.

Thanks. This was my first attempt at glassing. A lot of trial and error, but in the end I was happy with it. A lot of curse words came back to me that I had forgotten I knew how to say while doing the build
