Default The Old but classy HU look?

Other than the $1k+ McIntosh HUs, what other company makes a classy/old looking HU? I can not justify the cost of the McIntosh at this time but I dig the look. Any ideas?

The Nakamichi CD400 is a pretty simple look - and could pass as OEM if you have factory amber lighting. I think they are discontinued now anyway and their price has always been prohibitively high for me.

The Denons and that old school RF have a super clean, classic look. Still not cheap though.

Well I have found the Denon, the NAK, as well as the Rockford RFX 8250, The Denon in black is nice, the silver look will not work with the tan leather and wood dash. Same with the Rockford RFX 8250 and I am not feeling the NAK. I may just need to pony up for a McIntosh. Do they make a 6-disk inface of is that just old tech now with all of the digi/Ipod stuff? I don't keep up with the "Newest, greatest thing" anymore.

Honestly, I haven't decided yet. I want to run it, but I feel like my gear isn't worthy. Lol. Trying to put together a front stage that deserves a Mac HU, but not sure if I am prepared to spend that money. Don't want to thread jack, but OP (or you) can PM with an offer if interested.

Please forgive the newb question, but some of these SQ units (like the Denon DCT Z1) have what appear to be rca plugs running out the back, I am guessing they are not RCAs but a higher end connector. Is this correct?

I think it's quite classy.
I know it's out of the op's price point, but that's one reason I love the p99..modern features and processing, But with classy and understated looks. The layouts are very similar.

Indeed, and I didn't mention the 99 for that very reason. You can pick up a DEQ-P9 for $300-$500 depending on condition. Then if you need the processing, about the same for the DEQ-P9. P99 is for sure one of the better looking HUs ever.

Not a huge fan of the NAK, but on ebay there is a "new in Box" Nak 6-disk inface changer for around $100 (MB-X CD) with the factory external amp. I may go for it and then just make a custom face from rosewood or tan leather.

i still like the looks of the 800. change the color to all white and with the all black face it blends in nicely with an older interior. even mimics the dual knob style of older units.

That is a nice unit, But I would like to lean toward a 2 din to fit the entire opening, unless it is just a perfict single din. I think ultimatly I wouldlike to go with the Panasonic CQ-TX5500W, the gold color will match the tan leather perfict and it just looks very classy. I just like the look better and I am coming from a stock ford expedition audiophile system so it will be worlds better.
