Alpine IVA-D106, what differentiates it from the W505?

Ok, is it just me, or are the differences between these units limited to din size applications?

I happen to love the w505, but can't use a double din unit. So, does the the D106 run on the same firmware and capabilites? Any input appreciated....

The w505 is unique in the alpine lineup in that it has a 7-inch screen with 800x480 resolution like pioneer's avic f-series compared to the 480 x 272 of just about all other double-din screens. Also, it controls and decodes audio digitally from the ipod using the unit's 24-bit dacs instead of the lineout from the ipod itself. With the latest firmware it can also control the iphone in the same manner. Navigation is an option in two different ways with the blackbird ii or nve-p1. Other than that, I'd say that the d106 is closer to the 205 or 203 than the 505.

what about in comparison to the D310

Is the video resolution really that big a difference from the ACTUAL when you view it side by side? Or is it much like viewing a 32" Plamsa TV 720p vs 1080p wherein you hardly notice the difference due to the small screen size?

Is the screen the only major difference between them?

The differences between the older D310 (what I have) and the newer D106 is, as far as I can tell, in the connections and options.

My D310 does not accept the HD Radio tuner, the D106 does.
My D310 requires the 420 box for ipod interface, the D106 uses the simple 422 cable.
My D310 can use the older (expensive) DVD navigation systems (852, 872, etc.), the D106 can use the newer P1.
My D310 can use the 701 processor, the D106 can use the 701 and the IMPRINT processors.

I never got a hold of seeing the d106, but I don't regret fabbing a double din for the w505
