Default Good Quality Small Amps

What are some of the small amps that have good quality?

I like the size of the alpine ones but they sound pretty bad.

Camaro - Hybrid L63, DD Tweet, OEM HU, 2xArc 10, 2 x KS125.4, 2 x KS500.1, BitOne.1

Vote for Arc Minis, or for a lower price the PRS pioneer ICEpower amps. I think they sound quite nice.

My vote would be for Lunar Amplifiers because they pack an amazing punch for their size. The only downside is they are taller than most amplifiers.

Super nice, but how much, really? Wish they didn't look like computer power supplies though.

I purchased a L1500 new from a dealer for $399 plus tax. I measured its 4 ohm power at 230 watts RMS just prior to clipping @ 4 ohms with a 50 Hz test tone. Not bad considering it is only rated to produce 125 watts RMS @ 4 ohms.

I picked up a pair of 60x2s for $175 shipped from a forum member and I picked up a L2125 for $225 used from another forum.

I actually dig the look of the Lunar amps. And the power numbers are solid from everyone I've talked to.

I like the Arc Minis but I'm concerned that the 1.500 won't be powerful enough for a 12" sub and getting another amp for subs would look awekward styling wise.

What are your thoughts on zapco amps? They're skinny so I can just slap them side by side.

I have seen the Arc mini mono powering a pair of 12" subs without an issue. Unless you're going for SPL competition, then I wouldn't be concerned at all. Just IMHO/IME of course.

Oh ok so if I got 1.500 for each sub, it should do fine? Most likely a JL12w6v2 .. I'm still loving those subs too much to switch

BTW for tweets + mid-range should I get the 4 channel arc mini(hybrid audio L1 + L3)? Would I be able to run it fully active and control cross over before amp?

Yes, I would say that you'd be quite fine with that setup. You might want to start out with just 1 1.500 for the pair of JL's and see what you think. If it isn't enough, then add the 2nd one.

Not sure what you're asking here. But power wise, the 4 channel mini would have more power than you could need for the L1/L3 combo. Should work beautifully IMHO.

Mr. Mantz does know how to make one hell of an amp. There's no arguing that!

Your best bet is to call him. If there is no dealer local to you, I believe Kenny will sell direct.

here is what he set me in an email.

"The two models we are introducing initially are KRONOS rated at 250w/ch 4 ohm or 500w/ch at 2 ohm. Its MSRP is $399.00. This amplifier shall be able to multi task. It will carry out the duties of a traditional 2 channel amp with High Pass, Low Pass and Band Pass functions. In addition it will do what traditional mono block sub amps do.

It will have loop through outputs for daisy chaining multiple amplifiers. The loop through sockets shall be the 3rd and 4th inputs for constant subwoofer fading.

LEVIATHAN is our 6 channel amplifier rated at 150w x 6 at 4 ohm or 300w x 6 at 2 ohm. Its MSRP is $599. The feature sets of this amplifier are so diverse that I shall post them on the web site in the next few days or you may request an email and we shall send this information.

The amplifiers shall be small and light and very efficient.

Sizes: KRONOS 272mm/10.7” L x 247mm/9.7” W x 55mm/2.1” H
LEVIATHAN 410mm/16.1” L x 247mm/9.7” W x 55mm/2.1” H

Completely different cosmetics. Plexi glass top, dark charcoal finish with black end plates, black PCB, removable mounting feet
