What's the smallest 4ga wire you guys know of? I often run into the problem that my 4ga wire won't easily or neatly fit into the 4ga wire opening in the amp.

4 gauge wire should be 4 gauge. Anything smaller is not 4 gauge and is actually shit if it's sold as being 4 gauge.

Come on, I can't be the only guy who's seen the difference.
Aka: audison 4ga wire is very flexible and thinner than the really cheap stuff (can't think a name) but there are differences. Or maybe the differences are just in the strands so when you remove the plastic cover they don't puff up? |

When comparing wire that is truly 4 ga, the only difference would be the thickness of the insulation. Trying to find the wire with the thinnest sheath might not be the best plan for use in a vehicle.
Unfortunately, there are a number of unscrupulous manufacturers who produce wire with less copper and market it as a lower gauge than it actually is. Usually they make the plastic sheathing thicker to make it look like it is the same size. But because your issue is with the termination at the amp- There are adaptors which connect to the end of the wire and have a smaller diameter post which connects to the amp. That would be a better option than looking to use thinner wire. |

You could just cut some of the extra strands off a true 4 AWG wire, then it would fit just fine. The amount of extra resistance due to the last <1" of your wire being small would be negligible.
If you actually want less copper, you could go for power wires by IMC audio, or simply find a true 6 AWG kit. Finally, if you want to use an adapter as mentioned earlier, you would go for something like this: Stinger Power Wire Adapter 4 ga to 8 gauge - Quantity 2 - eBay (item 130313974555 end time Jun-28-09 19:00:00 PDT) I didn't price shop for you, you might find a better price if you look around. Any of the options I mentioned should work. |

It's about flow rate
![]() If a garden hose is too big . . . then use a straw [ only so much can flow thru a smaller diameter wire, hose , etc..,] I am lucky where I live the firetrucks have hoses that can connect to the fire hydrants . . . which makes a slight difference [ sub bass hits ] compared to a garden hose [ treble {midrange and tweeters} hits ]

If you properly cut the insulation and don't disturb the wire (don't twist it) it should fit no problem. If the wire is still too large then you must have 6 ga terminals. As others have stated, just cut the wire down or use a power wire reducer http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories
.... no need to replace all of your wire for something so simple. Just cut your insulation the old fashion way....use a utility knife and cut around about 3/4 through and peel it off by hand without messing up the shape of the wire. |

![]() its only about resistance..that is the only thing affecting the current flow. 4 gauge is rated at about 135 amps before it melts or whatever. so as long as the fuse or anything thing making a circuit can handle that many amps according to its resistance rating then it doesnt matter how big it is. i would do some math right now but im too tired. so ill leave it be at that. |

Either this ^^ or the kicker wire- if you can find the correct amount. Seems you only find the Kicker in 3ft or 500ft lengths

![]() To the OP: I feel your pain. Some 4ga seems LARGER and can be very inconvenient when trying to get a nice clean fit. Even shaving some of the strands is nonideal, because it's often hard to get it right up to the hilt perfectly. Just use 8ga.
