Default Tang Band W6-1139SI 6-1/2" Subwoofer - midbass?

Curious to see if anybody used these as midbass in doors. Would like to hear your thoughts. I currently have 8" Morel waiting to go in as part of 2 way with Foundtek full ranges. If that doesn't work and I end up with 3way, how would they do as dedicated midbass?

Thanks.

I only use one as a sub, but they should work awesome as a midbass. I'd say they are power hungry though so you don't want to loaf along with just 50 watts or so.

They are pretty good for their size, but they are just a 6.5". I could see two doing pretty decent as long as you aren't a bass head and don't expect them to sound like two 10's. In a quiet car, I can see not needing a sub.

I'd probably step up to the 8" version if I really wanted to go without a sub.

I would love to try these guys, but it seems kind of a waste to use in a 3 way where he will probably be crossing the midbass at 200hz or so. Seems these would make a much better 2 way, especially since they look good up to about 4k.

I think Candisa on here is using or going to use a pair of these in each door for midbass. Might shoot her a PM.

When people say something is "power hungry" -- what exactly does that mean?

I assume we aren't just talking low efficiency (and thus... to get some SPL you need some watts)... or are we?

Assuming a 50w amp gets "loud enough", if you put a 1000w amp (and level matched to the 50w)... is there some positive impact you should expect?

In my experience it's been about headroom. Underpowering a driver that clearly needed more power would result in compression, reduced output, and distortion (if turned up enough) for me.

What I mean is, well they're not very efficient. They are going to want some power to get loud. I'm running one with a rated 120 watts and it seems I could use even more than that. I mean of course they'd play off 50 watts, but you'd wish you had more power if you did.

I used them as midbass and I wasn't very happy with them. They didn't seem to have the snap of a good midbass IMO. I had them installed in my doors by the way off 100wrms.

The tiny tiny Vas wuoldn't lend itself to IB use.

If it is being marketed as a sub, generally it wouldn't be the best thing to use for a midbass. You could have a high inductance to limit upper end response.

83 db for a 6...that thing is power hungry in a bad way.

I used them for mid-bass before - they rocked.

I had 200 RMS per side on mine.

On paper it doesn't look good IB... but mine IB in a well dampened door was great.
