Default Keep in mind I know NOTHING....

I have a 1991 Miata, I know absolutely nothing about car audio. Meaning I had to have a friend show me how to hook up my amp! I can replace a radio and speakers but that is the extent of it. I purchased a Miata specific sub box with a 10 inch sub in it, what I want to know is what should I replace the speaker and amp with. If you are wondering you can go to ebay type in Miata sub box and it comes up. The woofer in there now is a BASS Series from Acoustic Audio which I am guessing is junk. I want to buy a new amp and speaker for THAT box, I like how it fits and looks. I have read all the posts about the Tang Bang and all that is that what you guys suggest? If that is what you guys suggest what amp is PERFECT for it. I want to know which amp and sub are matched perfectly. I don't know if this matters but I listen to all kinds of music, rock, rap, all of it. 4ohm, 2ohm, 8ohm, all that stuff mine as well be Chinese to me. If you guys tell me what to buy I will, I do not however want to go to a stereo shop and have them install it. I am taking 2010 off to learn every aspect about my car so I have all the time in the world to learn. If someone has the used stuff I need I would be more than willing to buy it. Thank you for reading this.

Jason

Unfortunately the Ebay ad has no useful information. You'll need to measure the internal air space of the box so that we can tell what type of sub will work in it.

Would be helpful to know your budget also! Amount of space available for the amp?

I don't know how to measure the box, I'm sorry. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one but the less I spend on a system the more I get to spend on other parts for my car like my 2K carbon fibre hardtop.
I'm not taking a year off to just learn about stereo equipment but I am lucky enough to not have to work so I can learn. I am learning my whole car from top to bottom.
Guys thanks again for all your help I just need a decent sounding sub and an amp to match. I don't want to blow the trunk off or anything.

Only problem with the top is I am scared to drive it thinking someone might steal it, so the car pretty much never leaves my garage unless I can park it somewhere that I can keep eyes on it at all times.
I will measure the box tomorrow and report back.

Kinda of topic ...but you are in for a surprise when you start to put a HU in the Miata. It is not a true DIN opening. There is a JDM radio surround available for the early NA Miata that gives you a true DIN ...otherwise you will have A LOT of trimming / fitting just to get a half assed install. IMO subs in the trunk of a Miata is not the way to go. If you are serious about quality bass in a Miata try to find one of the JL Audio Stealthbox and upgrade the JL subs to something better. The Stealthbox has been discontinued for several years but you can still find them if you are patient. They put 2 8" subs on the rear deck ...but no one knows they are there.

I put my HU in and did some trimming then had the rest blocked off with carbon fibre. I can't put that JL stealth box in my car because I have a roll bar in place and it won't fit. It ooks like I am going to put a JL 10 in that box and a JL amp, it's only going to be 250 watts though.
