Like I said if your were buying 6 1/2s and it was between hat clarus c61-2 2way or image dynamics sx65s or alpine spx17-pros what would it be? I like it loud and good sq And about 100-120 watts rms what would you go for?
First hit and its alpine I was thinking itwould have been hat and I just noticed I guess I should have posted this in system set up my bad. Cant wait see see so more people to chime in .
If running passive, I'd be tempted to try Alpine. Why? Take a look at the pdf manual. This is probably the most advanced crossover box I have seen. It has adjustments for phase and axis relationship between tweeter and woofer. It's also bi-amp capable. The SPX PRO tweeters are highly regarded too. The only issue is with the woofers, with some people complaining that midbass is not good enough.
If I was going to run active, I'd take Clarus, based on my positive experience with HAT Imagine set, and there is a big sale right now, unless it's over...
Still no mention of placement, etc. The ID crossovers are VERY intricate also, so not sure why they're being ruled out.
I've got some ID cxs x-overs For Sale right now actually, so if the OP wanted to piece together something and use these, he could make out pretty cheap. You could buy the CXS set for under $300 easily. Not trying to sell them..hell I could care less if I do, just helping.
I'll take the ID or Alpine $300-$400 sets in a deadened and sealed door over the $550 components in a non-treated door any day of the week given a budget of $550ish

I've never heard the ID's or the Clarus, but I have heard a couple sets of the L6 & didn't get too excited over them. I did have the SPX Pro set in my car for about a 1 1/2 years. I loved the tweeter, but wasn't impressed with the midbass output from the mid. The midrange was great though. Like mentioned earlier, it depends on your high-pass.
I still have the Alpine mids & the crossovers (still wrapped in plastic) if you're interested.
Placment not sure deaden door or kickor tweeter on a piller. Leaning more on door or door and a piller with a mid bass alpine type r 8 in floor or kick fireing at me. So alpine seems to be the cheapest, after everones sales prices but only 40.-50.00 or so. and 2 alpine type r 10s or 12s in trunk. Kenwood amps and maybe kenwood hu with dsp. Not sure if active or passive, I'm trying to see if that puts me in a upper class or not and not sure also about watts on amps if that puts me in a upper class? I would be trying sq comps for the first time.
I wouldnt discourage you from getting the best speakers you can afford. but good speakers with proper installation vs excellent speakers with "meh" install. the former will sound better.

^ this. Spend money on everything needed for a great install first, then go after a set of speakers with whatever is left over. The ID cxs set could be paired together for $240...

So my car is in alot of parts right now. Frame is painted changed front end to a mustang2,engine and trans mount change for 350 -700r set up car is bagged and frame has a big notch. Should be very close to a show car but I will be driving it. So I plan on sound deadner under neath the car and then bedliner to hold up to rockchips. Inside I plan to do eveything I can think of between sound deadner with paint and mat automotive foam seamsealers then mat. I have big open doors with wing windows in front to put speakers there. So if I need to box doors to not a big deal even better. If its better to do kickpannels cool, My NUMBER ONE THING IS TO MAKE EVREYTHING HIDDEN AND NOT IN THE OPEN, MY CAR IS TO BE MORE LATE 50S LOOK AND NOT A ROD. I would to use the car for sq comps also. So again if me buying stuff so I can go active and it does not bump me in class, then I will have to look at other speakers. Can you have 10,000.00 dollars in stereo set up before fine tuning and still be in the rookie class ,is it an open wallet. If I have to be passive then these would be in my range. Even if I buy to day I still have to get a place for it and build the spot for it. I would hate to pass up on these sales now.
Its all about what your going to power the speakers up to. Pick a amp and speaker that match up ohm wise and watt wise. The better fit between the two given proper installation with sound deadening will give you the best sound.
I don't get this.
You want us to tell you what we like?
What about what you like?
Only you can decide that friend.
As others have said though, installation really is critical so make sure you get that right and then whatever you buy will have a much better chance of putting a great big smile on your face.

why dont you get it? what if he already has the install planned, these 3 speaker sets are in his budget but he has no way to hear them to compare them.
hence he has no idea what he likes. hence he jumps on a forum where a sole reason behind it is to ask for help, get opinions, etc. and asks to find the most popular speaker set out of the ones in his budget
thats hard to understand friend
i did the same thing for my sub and i absolutely love it thanks to everyone suggesting it instead of telling me to go with what i like which i had no way to listen to what i ended up with
Ok so install first, what is install before I buy speakers? I can place in the door or I can place in a kickpannel, I can even do door and a piller, so If I try to do a install in the a piller with no tweeter how do I build without buying first. I would like to hear all these speakers before I buy, so how do I hear hat when it is no where around me same with alpine. I went to to different alpine dealers near me and one type r and the other only had type s times are tuff and shops are not stocking a ton of high end stuff. So I have some type s components now and let me tell you, not so good but I do not have alot in my trucks system and it gets loud enough for me[but yes doesnt sound great eather]. I have done nothing to try to deaden the doors, aim the speakers and mybe I might some day. I like my music loud I plain on 100 watt rms to my speakers and about 500-600 rms to my subs again loud but would like to sound as best as I can get it. I not dropping 5-6k in a system,I would like to be around 2k and even that sounds high but if I can have it sound killer then I'm good with it. I still dont have answers to stuff I need to know before I buy speakers, I'm trying to find out on these speakers because 2 of the 3 are on sale and I could be getting a higher end speaker then I would want to spend later.

This is why I hardly EVER post in threads where people ask me to tell them what they should like.
Especially where we have been provided with nowhere near enough information about the build and context of the system.
Once you've been around a while, you'll know what I'm talking about.
You obviously don't yet.
My only concern about the new alpine SPX speakers is that I heard a rumor that they are now Chinese clones of the Vifa drivers. Of course, I'm still looking for evidence to back it up, but it is truly sad if they indeed are.
I really liked the SPX17 Pros from 2007 to 2008, but know they have since changed. I'd probably give them another shot if I were in the market for some 6.5s and didn't have a set of Genesis components and Soundstream Reference RF3.6C comps just sitting there collecting dust. Argh, the tax crunch can't end soon enough and moving into my new house with a garage can't come soon enough.
