Question Radio Reception on Eclipse

I have an Eclipse AVN726EA head unit installed into a 2006 VW Touareg. With the OEM radio in the VW reception was excellent on AM and FM. Since installing the Eclipse unit the reception has been poor. The installer fitted an amplifier into the aerial to boost but that did not help. I later had another installer look at it and they replaced the amplifier and reception improved on AM and slightly on FM. As I live in a country area with surrounding hills reception is a challenge. I have contacted Eclipse and they say that reception on their unit can't match the VW OEM radio. It uses wires built into the side rear windows. Can anyone suggest an alternate approach. Is there an external antenna that would fit a Touareg? It would need to be short and fitted to the roof. Any suggestions appreciated.

Is the anetanna adapter just wires or does it have a bid metal cylinder with a blue wire on it? Vw needs a power source to work correctly and you should have good reception with it.

I believe it has a power source to it. I have not seen it only been told by the installer.

I had radio reception problems with an Eclipse AVN6600. The 1st car I had it in was a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon (Coupe). This car had a mast antenna with no radio problems. The 2nd car was an 2001 Audi A4 witha grid antenna. As long as I hooked up the power antenna lead to the antenna amp near the rear window, no problems. My current car 2002 BMW 330xi had terrible problems especially with AM. I picked an HD Radio add-on box on ebay and much to my suprise, the reception increased tremendously. Grid antennas with aftermarket radios seem to be problematic with Euro cars here. Some say it's hit or miss (not much help). I wouldl recomend you make sure that the power antenna lead is connected securley and you use a high quality adapter.

does the antenna adapter have a metal cylinder in the middle and a power wire coming off the middle of it? it does it just adapt the ends?
I've seen a lot of shops just use regular european antenna adapters because they don't stock the amplified antenna version(or even know about it).

I've tried the amplifiers, no difference. As for the adapters, there is a difference in quality depending on the brand of the adapter.

One thing I've learned is to ground the radio chassis to the car frame. I've also had problems with cheap adapters. The metal can fatigue after time and not grip properly. Carefully applying contact grease can help. There is one hidden antenna That I have had good results with here- Tune Trapper Hidden AM FM Antennas For Cars, Trucks, RV's, Tractors, Golf Carts, Vehicles

its been years since I had my eclipse, but the radio reception was horrible. I wasnt bothered much because I really didnt listen to the radio. The times I did click on radio, I listen to AM for talk and sports radio. Once I left city limits I knew to put a cd back in becaue the reception quickly went to piss.
