Ipod Classic suddenly sounds distorted??

I've had a 160gig Ipod classic for a couple months, and in the last couple weeks I noticed some pretty bad distortion in my system (mostly in the peaks in the highs). I narrowed it down to my Ipod being the source of the distortion.
So my question is: Anyone know why the output would suddenly be distorted?
and pt 2: Is it fixable?

Have the setting changed on the iPod? Volume and eq on the iPod? I know if I'm using my iPhone and the volume is all the way up on the phone it distorts.

re-sync it to i-tunes...worked for me

Are you using a docking cable or the headphone jack? I made an adjustment to the eq settings on the ipod for listening through my headphones, then when I plugged it up in the car using that same headphone jack it sounded distorted and too loud.

Like others have mentioned, check that all the settings are correct (ie no EQ or DSP effects). Also reset/reboot it.

i always leave the eq off, because the settings all sounded aweful. i also did try resetting it, but that didnt help at all. i'll try resyncing it.
