Default 3 sub enclosure questions -- 2 sealed/1 ported?

I have a quick question. I have 2 JL 8w3v3's in small sealed boxes with the JL grills behind my back seat in a 2001 F350 crew cab dually. I just picked up a 3rd 8w3v3 in a vet nice small ported box. Will it be okay to run 2 sealed and the one ported? I have to test the ohms yet with the 3 hooked up to see if my JL 500/1 can handle it. The JL tech guy said that it possibly might work just depending on what the ohms equal. He said that not all of the subs are exactly 4 ohms. Let me know if I will do any harm to either the amp or subs assuming that it equals 1.4 ohms or higher. That is what the tech guy said that it should be. Thanks for the help.

It would sound better if they were all in the same size/type enclosure.

Adding a 3rd speaker without increasing power may result in no output gain. Let alone any output loss due to cancellation.

literally no point to this. you will gain about 1db by adding a 3rd 8". the difference in port vs sealed will make things sound weird IMHO. different alignment, they will respond to music differently.

I didn't know if the one in a ported box would get a little lower response and the sealed stay really tight. The jl tech guy said that they would be getting like 167watts a piece. That should be plenty since they are rated at around 250 and less.

if you want to use the 3rd 8" go for it. but build an identical sealed box for it.

OK, I can probably get another of the same box. You don't think that it would really gain any more db or sound by using the 3rd one? I just know that I have room for the 3rd and I got it for about nothing on a trade so that was why I was asking.

like others have said, I would go for 1 type of box. Either go sealed for all 3 or ported. Do you have room for all 3 in a ported box? Thats the route I would try to go with the 8s.

I don't think that I would have room, or it would have to be one heck of a custom box. I was surprised at this ported box that the 8 is in, how small it is. Those 8w3v3's don't really need a lot of space.

Just fyi, this is what the rest of the system is. I have a Alpine 9855 headunit waiting on my d310 to get repaired soon. I also have the h701 processor to go along with it. I have alpine spx17pro components run active off a JL 450/4 with alpine type r coax for rear fill run off the head unit right now. I have the 2 JL 8w3v3's now run off from a JL 500/1 with the third that I just picked up. It's in a 2001 F350 crew cab dually with tweeter pods made in the sail panels pointed about chest high in the center over the console.

Oh and wiring them to your 500/1 should be fine, if you wire them in series/parallel you will get 2.666 ohms (correct me if I'm wrong, they are DVC 4ohm subs).

Now you have to just figure out if you can fit all 3!

No they are all single 4 ohm. I have to put the meter on them and see how close they will be to 1.5 ohm. How much output will I gain by using the third sub? Much at all?

if you double power or cone area you gain 3db. by adding 50% more cone area you will gain about 1.2db. not audible at all.

Not to mention but the reduction in power to the other subs, roughly 1/3 less power each, will reduce another 2 dbs from the current setup so that 1.2 increase will be cancelled and in effect you will actually loose .8db's over all.

Typically most 4 ohms speakers will measure below 4 ohms dc at rest. Even if they measure 4 ohms when you parallel 3 of them you will get a 1.333333 ohm load. If the measure 3.8 ohms DC then they will come in at 1.26666666. In order for them to measure above 1.4 they will need to measure 4.2 ohms DC each.
