i have a Hifonics Brz1200.D pushing my 10" Kenwood 2513ps, and im ready for an upgrade. ive decided on the new 2012 12" Alpine Type S that runs on 500rms. The Brutus pushes 450rms @ 4ohms, 900rms @ 2ohms, and 1200rms @ 1 ohm. So, since i plan on getting another type s when i get another car (bigger alternator), should i buy a dual 2 ohm and wire it to 4 getting 450rms, or dual 4 ohm wired to 2 @ 900. This gives the future option of 2 Type S @ 900rms or 2 @ 1200 rms. what do you think? will i be safe with the gain turned down?
Kenwood MP145 HU, Polk Audio 5.25 "db" series component fronts, Alpine "type s" 6inch rear deck, Skar Audio VVX12d4 1.75cu @ 32hz, Hifonics "Brutus" Brz1200D, Hifonics "Zeus" Zrx600.4, Wired with Knukonceptz and Tsunami
This may be a good question to ask Jim Walter, if he is reading this.
My gut feeling is that having more power than the subwoofer is rated for should not harm if you listen music with primarily SQ type of bass (rock, jazz, most of pop, etc). If you listen rap, reggaeton, etc and want to be loud, then run about 500watts to it and set gains with DMM so you don't overdrive either the amplifier or subwoofer.
