Default Stupid question - amplifier current draw

Say I have a Class D sub amp and I hook it up to a DC 13.8V 10A power supply and send a 0db 80Hz sine wav to it, will it draw a high amount of current if no sub is connected to the output? I want to measure the speaker output with a DMM out of the car

Default Re: Stupid question - amplifier current draw

It should not. Power in equals power out. If there is no subwoofer to consume the power, then the amplifier will not draw a bunch of power.

You might consider using a high wattage dummy load (resistor or resistor network) to simulate a subwoofer though since amplifiers' behavior can change if they have a load or not.

Also, not a stupid question. There are only stupid answers.

Measure with mics, mark with chalk, cut with torch, grind to fit, sand to finish, paint to match.
