Here is the procedure, it is very simple. I have the file if you want it. Pm me your email address and I will send it to you. I hated the look of this head unit till I did this mod, I also deleted all the random icons off of the screen using nail polish remover.

I don't know how long it will last, but I will upload it to a file hosting site for everyone to use. I also don't remember which of these I used, so there are three files included. Feel free to contact me again sometime if anyone else needs it.

Hello! I uploaded the files I have to my dropbox so you can download them, and hopefully if anyone else comes upon this post later they should be able to download them too. It has been a while since I used them to black out my background so I don't remember exactly which file to use. But you should have everything you need to get it done!

Bumping this instead of starting a new thread. Does anyone have recommendations on USB thumb drives that a CD7200 mkii will recognize?

I tried buying a couple and they aren't being recognized. One USB 2.0 16GB and one 1.5/2.0 8GB both formatted to fat32. The unit just doesn't recognize them.

I checked and the drive dock is putting out 5v so I know it's working.

Are there any files on the thumb drives you are using? Is the radio simply not allowing you to switch to the USB Audio source in the menu, or is it not recognizing the files you placed on the thumb drive? In the manual there are lots of file and folder and format and other restrictions. I copy/pasted them below.

I can use my older 4GB thumb drive, but have not tried anything larger or newer. It was made years ago when 4GB was considered "large" for usb drives. I'm not sure what other guidance to offer other than seeing if you can find an older thumb drive.

I had the blackout screen files on there in the proper format. It won't let me switch to USB and then when I try to go into display data it says "connect USB" so I don't think it's recognizing it.

Do you happen to have the model number of the old USB drive that works for you?

It is a 4GB ZipZip lego usb stick.

Your problem might be related to the requirement that you need to use the ISO 9660 standard (as shown in the second photo). ISO9660 seems to be a 32-bit storage system which has the same limitation as a 32-bit operating system: 4GB of memory is the limit. Your usb drives are both larger than this.

There is definitely a limit. I don't recall what it is. I think one of the ways to bypass the limit was download everything in WMA. There also was a way to get it to recognize bigger USB drives/hard drives. I don't remember but hopefully a web search can help. I can tell you that I have 726 Navi unit in my truck. Even though it ha 2016 maps and capabilities I still had to find a old 4gb camera SD. Has to be a non HC version. The 726 is 5 years newer than the 7200 and still has the ridiculous SD and thumb drive requirements.

The best way to dummy proof is to get rid of the dummies
