Default ED 13Ov.2 for $70

http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=721

i know ED isn't everyone's favorite brand, but it is an awesome sub for $70. I have two of them, and i have had other subs including an RL-P, Kappa VQ, etc, and they really come close. For the money it is hard to beat.

+$30 for shipping, but that's still a pretty damn good deal. I got a b-stock Dual 2 for around $120 I think. If shipping was free I would probably pull the trigger on another one at this price. Stuff is really starting to pile up for me though!

They really are great subs. I went back and forth between this and my RL-P to try and discern the differences. This is a little smoother in some ways, and quite a bit more efficient. it hits lows nicely, and i bought it for $25 shipped so i can't really complain. (the guy thought it was messed up because of a tiny tear in the spider, but it works very well).

For sure. $25 is a steal! I'm quite happy with mine. I decided on it because I loved my old e12 flatcone so much, which I hear are the best subs eD ever "made." I don't have much else to compare to and it's been like 4 years since my flatcone got stolen, but they definitely have my recommendation.

how would you compare this to the flatcone? The RL-P was very similar to the flatcone, and i think the 130v.2 (while not as attractive) is a good comparo to the RL-P and flatcone.

Well, like I said, it's been 4 years since I heard my flatcone and if I recall correctly it was getting 650w compared to the 400w my 13Ov.2 is getting right now, but I would say they are comparable. Good SQ, gets pretty low, and hits quick and tight too. I've got a PDX 1.600 on the way for sub duty, so we'll see if that gives it any more kick :P Those flatcones sure were sexy...

Apparently my brother grabbed a couple of these.

Very efficient woofers, but you're sort of stuck with ported unless your car has a lot of cabin gain. Yet, 2 cu.ft. @ 30Hz isn't too bad for sizing.

I have had mine in 1.6 at low 30's, and 2.0 at 28, and it sounds good in both. MVw2, can you explain to me why they can't be used sealed? icix just worships these, so it is hard to discuss the faults of them sometimes over there.

I've never heard the D3s, but I'm sure you'd be pleased with the 13Os, especially at this price

i would have to agree. I have never heard the d3 subs, but i assume the 13O.v2 is more on par with the D6, so this would be an upgrade. You could probably sell the d3's locally for what you pay for the new ED subs.

what are the specs on your current enclosure? I was playing around with the D3's in winisd and i can't get any kind of flat response out of them in a ported enclosure.

It's just a matter of sensitivity. Sealed, they start rolling off at around 60Hz. That means when you cross them into the system, they're already getting quieter. You can rely on cabin gain to some extent to boost the low end and flatten out the response. If you have enough gain effect, you would be fine, but many times, you don't. Then you're forced to EQ in the boost manually to bring up the sensitivity and low end response. This is OK if you have the EQ bands to do this. If you don't, you're out of luck. Also, you run into a problem when EQing up the low end. A sealed woofer requires X amount of air movement at a given loudness and frequency. This is just basic physics. At some point, you will simply run out of excursion. EQ boosting makes this go bye bye oh so much faster. If you can get it from cabin gain, great. If you can't, it's like trying to make a 6.5" midwoofer play 50Hz with authority. It only works at a very limited output.

Ported gets around these limitations by provided a more extended low frequency sensitivity AND reducing excursion needs. Now you can get loud and low and you don't need a huge diameter sub nor lots of excursion. The only downsides are the bigger box with less design forgiveness and some group delay from the port.

It's not like the subs can't be used sealed. It's just far less limited when run ported.

^^^interesting. I love the one that i have ported, but i have a second and was pondering running two sealed instead of one ported. I understand basic natures of ported vs. sealed, but i was just wondering why these would not be so good sealed.

A 12 starts rolling off around 60 in a sealed enclosure? That seems terrible.
