My guess is the average consumer likes looking at the pretty pictures and graphs, but isn't in a position right now to drop $400 on a pair of tweeters.
Madi is probably adjusting the price to what they feel the market can bear after months of having these sit on a shelf, or maybe Scan is introducing a new model soon and Madi is getting ready for new ones???
excellent price on these! I am in the process of listening to the peerless HDS, L1 Pro, Supreme Piccolo, and the scan illuminator 2004's. As of this moment in time after a few quick sessions with each I am leaning toward keeping the scans right now.

Well I can venture a guess. I called Madi 3 weeks ago with a proposition. I asked them to price match this store from Holland on a few items including these in particular. The guy who answered got infuriated really quick, apparently they have been irritated at the dutch company selling items closer to cost times before. Nevertheless they refused to price match for me to only throw out this special a few weeks after. I personally hate both companies for the foreign one adds on special fees at the checkout while Madi. was stubborn and lost my big ticket sale over personal grudges with the former.
I'm fairly sure they are engaged in a price war for the above reasons. Yes the ring radiator model is coming out too on madi, it has been out for a while but I don't take this to be the reason, these are better objectively while the ring radiator has other special qualities. I'd like to think of them as compliments more than substitutes.
I don't think the special will last for long, just enough for both companies to get over the whole deal. I would buy now, I did buy my pair.

how do the d2004/6020-00 compare to the HAT L1 pro? i have the L1 now and want to try the scans or the L1 pro. my crossover piont is 7khz now with my L3 running from 7k-250 hz. both are mounted in the kick panels.
I am currently using the Alpine SPX-17REF tweeter. It sound good but lag the smoothness/clarity when I crank up the volume really loud. I wonder is it worth the $150 to purchase the ScanSpeak Illuminator tweeter as a replacement?
I am that close to pull the trigger to purchase. Someone please tell me "DO IT"

That's like telling a croud of "onlookers" to tell you to jump. They'll do it just to have something to see.

I wouldnt bother, I have both the L1 Pro and the illuminator 2004's in my possession and I would honestly be happy with either one. As I read npdang once say, "If you really want to try something different, ribbons would be the way to go."

I think I remember Scott saying that the pro was for people wanting to cross lower than 4.5k or so. If you like what you have, I wouldn't change it.
I went ahead and purchased the 602000. I like my HDS but one is damaged and instead of just purchasing a new one figured I would buy these and move the speaker location from the door to the A pillar hope it turns out great Too bad I think it will be a couple months till these get installed.

Well, I just bought a pair, still wondering if it was a good choice for off-axis response. My other option was Legatia L1 Pro pair.
You made the right choice. I had the L1 Pros and hated them. I then had the 3/4" Scan Illums and loved those so much I am planning to put in the 1" Illums. Have you tried searching in the forum? NpDang has a comprehensive review of the Scan Illum tweeters.
