Default 97 civic doors fit 6.5?

Hi I am a visitor from the home stereo threads and I ordered some coaxials that I wonder will fit in the front doors of a 97 civic. They are home/pro audio

6 1/2 5 3/4 3 1/4 ??

The 97 Civic has a shallow mounting depth... Anything over 2 5/8'' is probably going to get smacked by the window if you don't space it out. Also, plan to do some cutting because the stock cutout won't accommodate much more than a 5'' cutout.

ETA: This is the largest speaker that fit with minimal modifications in my 97 Civic coupe:

I want to replace the door speakers with a set of Genesis Profile 16s that I have on hand, but that is going to require a ton of modification.

It is a simple case of mind over matter. I don't mind because YOU don't matter!

Hello. This is my first reply, thus enabling me to make future posts. I have a Saturn l200 with really odd factory speaker sizes/mounting configurations that I'm currently trying to figure out.

Peace.

So you mean cut out the plastic that is behind the speaker? crutchfield tells me the stock speaker is a 6 1/2- or should I buy smaller ones? i presume i can do the cutting with an exacto? I don't have any problems using spacers but i'll have to find some grills so I dont kick the woofers.

I used a dremel to make short work of my factory plastic. The speaker in my photo is an alpine Type R 6.5, which is really closer to a 6" driver with it's 5" cutout. You are going to be in a world of hurt finding an additional 3/4" to cut and still have a place to mount your speaker to. In fact, the only reason I haven't changed out my 6.5s is due to all the labor involved to customize a REAL 6.5 install.

ETA: Check out this build thread for more details as to what you can be expected to encounter: 98 Civic HB - Door Panels and Box/Amp Rack

thanks much, i'm not going to keep this car for very long so is there anything that will just drop right in with no modification? i'm thinking an infinity or mbquart coaxial 6.5" (i have actually read 5.25 might do this?)
am I safe just looking at coaxes in the 100$ range for now and expecting them to most likely just drop and screw right on?

The quart dsd coaxial did not fit in the stock location of my door. The basket extended out just a little to far for a good fit. The depth is also a pain. I cut the plastic out of the overhang, but still ran into the oversize issue... That's when I decided to start the build that is linked above.

The Polk coaxials that came with the car when I bought it fit fine though so it will all depend on the speaker itself. I've had several quart models and they were all oversized.
