So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
Hey guys, I have obviously had some SUPER SHITTY luck with the Droid X. I baby the hell out of these phones. They literally look new when I send them back. Or it could be that I don't have time to actually cause them any harm. Anyway here is my track record:
Phone 1, Brand NEW-Camera quit working after 2 months
Phone 2 referb- Mic/Reciever went out, ppl could not hear me talk after 3 weeks
Phone 3 referb- speaker went out I could not hear ppl after 2 weeks
Phone 4 referb- Phone kept getting black screen with weird programming letters in upper left corner, had to pull the battery contently THIS WAS THE DAY I GOT THE REFERB!!! So I literally had to wait for phone 5 and ship phones 3 AND 4 back to Verizon at the same time
Phone 5 referb- Classic Droid Keyboard crash report, however after a tech support software upgrade the phone got hot and things got crazy. My main screen icons shifted to the side vertically and it was ending and making calls for me. Nice. That one lasted almost 6 weeks.
Phone 6 referb- Every single time I would type a word the keyboard would go away. Not crash, not freeze, just go away. If I clicked into the box to type again the keyboard would stay but nothing would type. After two factory resets on that phone they had me send it in for another one. 4 weeks old.
Phone 7 referb- My current phone is 3 weeks old and when I type anything on the keyboard it locks up. Unresponsive to anything. IF I can get it to go back to the main screen my main screen icons have shifted to mid screen and nothing is unresponsive. I have been trying to limp it along until the new one gets here but it has been putting itself into Airplane Mode on its own for the last two days.
Has anyone else had any issues with these phones? I would say it is because of the apps I have but I don't care to have any as it is a PITA to keep reinstalling them as I know the phone will not last me longer than a couple months.
Any Verizon guys out there who have any advise on what the hell I can do here? Besides cough up a shit load of cash on another smart phone?
Thanks! Jesse

You have no idea! I went through 6 Droid Global IIs before finally not replacing it and waiting for my free upgrade. I just use my work phone all the time now. Haven't had a personal phone in 3 months. That's how bad I hate it. It did everything from texting the right name but the wrong number to rebooting during a phone call. I can't express how much I hate that phone.

I would find when I would reply to a person's text and hit send it would send the message to someone else. How the hell does that happen?!?!? I am in that conversation of messages, why and how the hell would it randomly choose someone else to send the message too?

I haven't had any luck with motorola phones....
They got fed up with my last one and said that "water damage"was not covered and that I was screwed... when the phone never had any form of liquid go near it, ever!

Yup, 'cause I actually loved my last motorola! (when it wasn't away for repairs)
SORRY for the rant, but reading your first post , reminded me of all the B-S I went through.
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
I've had a Droid X for a year and it's generally OK, except the hotspot function has never worked more than about 5 minutes.
Now the battery life is so poor, even with full charge and no use it will last about 6 hours. It has to be plugged in to use bluetooth, GPRS or listening to podcasts, otherwise it is dead in minutes.
I bought from Verizon online so none of the vendor stores could help with a return and I'm too busy doing other things I find more important to send it back.
Waiting for the new iPhone as it will be easier to sync with all my other Mac stuff.
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
I've had my DroidX for 14 months. I've had to reboot it 2 or 3 times while I've had it, but other than that, no issues at all. To be honest, I'm very rough on it. I put a screen protector on it when it was new but it''s never been in a case. It replaced a Samsung that I had to exchange 3 or 4 times because the bluetooth kept going out. Finally gave up and bought the DroidX.
Sorry for your trouble - it really is a great phone.

It is a freaking awesome phone, when it works properly. My first one was amazing, minus the camera issue. I think anyone will notice that they disabled the auto shutter in them. Just an open lens now, no shutter.

At first I thought it was me but after paying close attention I realized it was the phone. It's good I'm not single and talking to multiple girls at once lol. My two friends with the same phone had identical problems as well.
FWIW, I got my GF the X at the same time I got my G2 and her X has been pretty good. It does the random reboot from time to time but nothing like my phone. Each phone call was so stressful I chose not to replace it. Just one more month and I get an Iphone.

What version iPhone you guys looking at getting? Some are waiting on a new version? I know nothing of the iPhones. To tie this into car audio, what will work best with W505? Will I need to get a different BT module?

My exgf has gone thru several drod phones in the last few months.
I'm starting to see "flickers" of issues with my 3mo old samsung. Only reason I moved from BB was the lack of hotspot capability....I'm back to bb as soon as they get a hotspot capable phone on the market
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
I have the original droid.... a few years prior I swore to never own a Motorolla product due to how crappy they are. Well my droid made it a year before it started freaking out. I am on my 6th now, arrived last week. So far so good. I stated my displeasure to the local sales people she told me that if this has problems to call up customer service, they can do a lot more then what the local stores can do. She said they would have a much better chance of getting me into a different new phone.
I hope this will make it until the new Iphone is released, tired of all the forced close crap with the Android software. Everyone I talk to states they Iphones never brake down.... they just work.
Unfortunantly if the water sticker shanges coler they will void any warrante.
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
iPhones are a different breed of crap entirely.
My sister has gone through several in the past few years (she is your typical stupid teenager that must have whatever product is deemed as cool and keeps buying the POS's). If you lightly drop it on anything the screen shatters and they call it mis-use. The batteries themselves care crappy and non-serviceable (well, not easily at least) and don't last very long. It's also a very limited phone that can't do a lot of what Android does quickly, efficiently, and easily.
As far as the water damage stuff goes... It's usually sweat. You might not realize it, but you get it sweaty and it can damage the battery and phone.
I've had no issues with my Samsung Galaxy S. It's thinner than an iPhone, has a bigger screen, has MUCH better signal, is faster, and is tougher in general. I highly recommend it.
2chguy: nut up man... this is car audio we're talking about
2chguy: if it was easy, it would be called home audio
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
I just want a phone that can talk, text, and have basic internet usage.
The Droids are excellent with the internet, in fact it seems like they have forgotten it's a phone and only put effort into the internet side of things. It had terrible service where my cheaper Verizon phones had great service. It dropped calls constantly, powered off in the middle of phone calls, I could set it on the coffee table and watch it unlock itself and either page someone or call someone. The ergonomics are terrible. I had to remove it from my ear and look at the volume buttons to turn it up or down and unlocking it required eyesight. One of them was so terrible I just laid it inside of my full coffee to put it out of it's misery.
I would gladly take the iphone even if it had 1/10th the features if I could just talk and text without issues.

Amen brother! Not to mention how much we pay for the service almost 200 a month for my one data package and two add ons and that is with my 15% government discount

I've got the iPhone 4 and none of that is true if you're willing to jailbreak it and my battery life is EXCELLENT!
While there are some things that i miss about my Droid, voice turn by turn nav being one, just the extended battery life and the lightning quick charging is worth it not to go back. if you want protection, get an Otterbox case and be done with it.
I did like the auto search while dialing a number, the contacts set up, and just the overall "ease of use" of the Android os.

My brother has the Droid X and he hates it. It seems whenever we're together, he's constantly changing it. It drains his battery with almost no use at all. I would have stayed with the Droid if not for all the problems. For some reason, it would save all the apps to the phone instead of the 16gb memory card by default.??? Whose idea was that? Every month I was running out of memory and had to move apps to the sd card. Some of them couldn't be transfered. I also started experiencing some of the "mind of its own" issues.

My iPhone is far from perfect and I absolutely HATE the auto correct with a passion, but over all, I don't regret my decision one bit.
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
Had my DX since November and it's been great, but I've realized those phones only perform after you hack them. I've been rooted and running custom roms since March.
I've gone through a ton of froyo and gingerbread based roms (ApeX, RubiX, Liberty - froyo and gingerbread based) and now the 2nd-enit roms that defeat the locked bootloader business (Cyanogenmod and MIUI). It's the only real way to make the phones perform solid.
The biggest hindrance to motorola phones is motoblur (their skinned version of android). That plus all the added bloat sucks the life out the moto phones. if they ran plain vanilla android, they'd be a far better phone like the original Droid was.
I'm running MIUI now and absolutely love it, but also CM7 was equally great as a more straight AOSP android rom. Both of those not so long ago were impossible to run on any of the newer motorola's due to the locked bootloader.
In short, to run a motorola, you pretty much have to get your geek on to make it run right.
Re: So I am on my 7th Droid X this year, Verizon is shipping me my 8th
Love my iPhone 4. Works good. My only complaint would be battery life and that isn't really that big of a deal. I use Pandora all the time with the Sync/Bluetooth in my truck and it works really well.
I've never tried an android phone, so I may be a little biased.
