Despite a lot of grumbling from a lot of people, I'm not really sure any of the running Republican hopefuls are electable enough to win the race. The two most likely nominees are Romney and Gingrich. Romney keeps delivering severely self-harmful sound bites to the competition ("Ilike firing people" and "I'm not worried about the poor"...all taken out of context of course, but catchy and harmful to his campaign) and Gingrich is freaking bipolar or something.
Unfortunately these races no longer seem to be issue focused...its all about "electability" and whose character flaws do we dislike the least.
edit, this is a poll now and I predict another 4 years of Obamanomics.
Add me to the poll, Oliver. This is my official announcement. I am running for President. I won't win the popular vote but perhaps I'll get DIYMA's dumbass of the year.
I'm going to run a campaign completely without dirty smear or attack ads. I see no point in attacking my opponents over shit that doesn't matter but since they all will, I'll just clear the air right now. I never did drugs but I like to drink. I have mild Asperger's. I made a measly 30K last year and I'll provide all my returns for the last ten. I didn't attend an ivy league college; I only have an associate's degree and it's in leadership studies. My credit sucks because I made bad decisions and now I'm paying the price. I have a secret fondness for fat chicks. My wife is a redhead and I often call her Ginger because it makes her mad. I'm a Christian. I love guns. I believe in the death penalty but I think it'd be much cheaper to just use bullets. I don't want to be your friend. I love Taco Bell.
Now that all that's out of the way, here's my campaign:
ALL our troops are leaving the Middle East. We're done, folks. We will no longer play big brother to countries that have been trying to blow each other to hell and back for centuries in the name of God. We're not wanted, our help is not wanted, and we've become that annoying guest that doesn't know how to take a hint when the host turns out the lights and goes to bed. If they want to keep fighting, let them.
I will repeal the individual mandate. Individuals will not be fined for their inability to pay for health insurance. Here's where Obama and I agree: I WANT EVERY AMERICAN TO HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. However rather than forcing them into paying rates they may not be able to afford, I will force insurance companies to compete for business with affordable rates. Policies will be easy to understand so that individuals can make educated choices regarding their health care. No longer will people be held hostage by providers.
I will revamp the welfare system. No longer will people be able to sit on their ass and simply collect a check while making no effort to improve their situation. Before getting each check, every individual on welfare will submit to a urine analysis. If working citizens have to pass a drug test to get a job, then those on welfare will have to pass one to get their handout. Additionally, they will actively seek gainful employment. Just like unemployment benefits, individuals will provide evidence that they are making a solid effort to become self-reliant. Anyone convicted of drug-related charges, OWI, DUI, assault, domestic assault, sex crimes, or other charges that would otherwise disqualify them from gaining employment, will lose their benefits.
I will legalize marijuana and it will become a regulated industry the same as alcohol and tobacco. I don't smoke weed. I've tried it like anyone else but I don't care for the smell, don't like the taste, don't like that it gives me the munchies. But I understand the financial benefits of legalizing and regulating it. This move will create jobs, generate much needed revenue, and relieve the strain placed on law enforcement and the correctional system.
Finally, all non-essential legislation will be barred from congress indefinitely. Until the federal budget is balanced and there is a solid plan set forth by congress to resolve our nation's debt, our elected officials will not be spending time discussing social issues like gay marriage, religion in schools, etc. If it doesn't make a positive impact on our country's financial crisis, we're not wasting time with it.
I interpreted the poll as "who's it going to be" so I voted Romney. I think that he'll end up winning.
Out of our current candidates, I'd most prefer to see Ron Paul win, but I don't think he stands a chance. I wish he could get the support, I think he has the best policies, but the media hides him from the public so the public thinks he's the "crazy old man" because the few sound bites they hear of Ron Paul are chosen to portray him as crazy and unelectable. If Ron Paul was a smooth talker like Obama he could fool the public into liking everything he says, but that's not his goal.
Obama will win. I really hate to see him in the WH again but Romney is not nearly as good of a campaigner. That and good economic news will help Obama and marginalize the best thing Romney has going for him. I'm voting against Obama regardless of who it is.

This is what your tv keeps telling you. Turn it off. It's poison. As for O'Bamanomics.... We have yet to live through that. We are still living through Bushanomics.

PottersField, amen.
Write him in. In this country you will NEVER see the right man for the job thrust upon you in the media or on your ballot. The supreme court has pretty much guaranteed this.

Wish Paul would win. I think Obama is doing better than your typical politician, but those standards are too low. There are still too many restrictions in place of freedom and still too much financial burden to cover those that don't take responsibility for their own lives. In the end, I think Obama will win because the Republicans aren't capable of doing the right thing.
i dont give a rats ass who runs, my vote goes to anyone against obama, didnt vote for him before, wont do it now.. He's the worst thing to happen to this country!!! There my .02 worth!
Storming the Competition, LITERALLY! Especially on KY

President Barack Obama called yesterday’s jobs report a sign the U.S. economy is on the rebound. His prospects for re-election may depend on it.
The drop in the unemployment rate in December to 8.5 percent, a three-year low, showed the job market gaining momentum heading into a presidential election campaign that will be shaped by the state of the economy.
The Labor Department figures cap four months of declines in the unemployment rate and six consecutive months of jobs gains of 100,000 or more. Employers expanded payrolls by 200,000 in December, exceeding a median estimate of 155,000 in a Bloomberg News survey. For all of 2011, 1.64 million positions were created, the most since 2006, after a 940,000 increase in 2010.
Who knows ?

The poll is flawed.
You left Rick Santorum out of the choices.
Deliberate?
And before you say he doesn't have a chance, neither does Ron Paul but you put him in there.
Stranger things have happened.
And don't forget Roseanne Barr is running for the Green Party candidate.

Ron Paul has an extremely loyal and strong following. Many people I have talked to from all corners of the country and both sides of the isle are writing him in. Now Roseanne would be an interesting choice. I like her because, she wouldn't cower to anybody. If she doesn't like something she will tell you as much and if you don't like it.... fuck off. I wonder if she's a stocking, pantyhose or commando kinda' girl.

I hate it when I make simple little mistake like that.
Looks like she's a stocking girl.
Well that should put a stake right in the heart of this thread.

People will vote against their own best interests in order to see the Prez out.
It's comical really and indicative of why we're in the state we're in now.
All because the fear machine told them to.

I questioned my standards for a minute there, but I came to my senses and, nope, I still couldn't bring myself to hit that. Maybe with a brick or a cricket bat.
