Here are a few interesting quotes, it's all I felt like typing up because I know most conservatives will want more and all the liberals/socialists/marxists will probably not finish the first quote.
1915
Quote from Tyack and Hansot (Manager's of virtue)
"There were 'placement barons' usually professors of educational administration in universities such as Teachers colloege, Harvaerd, Univ of Chicago and Stanford who had an inside track in placing their graduates in important positions."
This was the beginning of a plan to use the credentialing process to control education.
1934
William Givens (Executive Secretary of the NEA)
"A dying laissez-faire must be completely destroyed and all of us, including the 'owners,' must be subjected to a large degree of social control. An equitable distribution of income will be sought ... [and] the major function of the school is the social orientation of the individual. It must seek to give him understanding of the transition to a new social order."
1938
June 28 The New York Herald Tribune
"Dr. Goodwin Watson, Professor of Education at Teachers College, Colombia University, begged the teachers of the nation to use their profession to indoctrinate children to overthrow 'conservative reactionaries' directing American government and industry. (He) declared that Soviet Russia was one of 'the most notable international achievements of our generation."
1940
The NEA begins promoting the "Building America" social studies texts, which a California Senate Investigating Comittee will later condemn for it's subtle support for Marxism or Socialism.
1946
NEA journal editor Joy Elmer Morgan
"In the struggle to establish an adequate world governmet, the teacher ... can do much to prepare the hearts and minds of children for global understanding and coooperation. At the very top of all the agencies which will assure the coming of world government must stand the school, the teacher. and the organized profession."

I disagree with liberals/progressives/marxists (LPM's), therefore I am trolling. I disagree politically with pretty much everything that comes out of Obama's mouth, therefore I am a racist. Hmm ... easy to see who sees the world in black and white terms.
Please take heed to the disclaimer in PaulD's signature.
The vast majority of that post is quotes from US educators of the past. I can only assume you are one of the ones who stopped midway thru the first quote.

Ok, I got this far and was overwhelmed , is this what it's about ?

Is pizza really a vegetable?
Reagan declaring ketchup to be a vegetable in 1982.
You may have heard that the U.S. Congress recently reaffirmed that pizza is a vegetable. Of course, the situation is more complicated than that. The U.S. Department of Agriculture—which regulates the school lunches served to millions of American children—proposed a new standard for school lunches.

Quote:
During his political career, Duvall has unabashedly espoused conservative principles and is known as a partisan Republican with a knack for theatrics: He has noisily driven his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to functions. In 2008, Duvall blasted efforts to condone gay marriage. . . . Such thinking impressed certain constituencies. Earlier this year, the man who never graduated from high school received "100 percent" approval scores by the California Republican Assembly, the state's leading conservative outfit, and the Capitol Resource Institute (CRI), a fierce guardian of traditional family values.
Apparently, he likes to spank and be spanked by lobbyists.
Does he have a wide stance? Is he hiking the Appalachian trail right now

Way back in 2008, when banks like IndyMac and Washington Mutual were going under, Californians panicked, fearing that they'd never be able to recover the money

California in the 40's was not the bastion of liberalism it is today. California was taken over by the liberals in the 60's and managed to kick out all of the military people and military contractors - and most of it's money. So a family with a high paying job was replaced by a family of immigrants (mostly mexicans) on welfare. And how has that state done under liberal democratic rule ? Quite badly apparently.

What i read somewhere as best i can remember.
As we left an agrarian society and moved into the industrial age they needed factory workers. So that is about the time the public schools got going in America.
The whole system was set up to turn out usable factory workers and keep them entertained.
Now that America is past the industrial age no one has a clue what to do.
There was supposed to be some utopian society where the USA would be the brains of the world and the rest of the world produce products to meet our needs.
So we could live in an idyllic park like world (ya right)
Well that plan worked for a few and is now on the skids also.

Mr Google has arrived. You don't like too much when someone plays your game lol. Have you ever typed more than a few sentences at once or are you content to copy and paste other peoples' thoughts?

I just know here where I live, private scholls are going up like crazy and home schooling is becoming more and more common. On the flip side, they are closing public schools pretty regularly. I kind of feel bad for the kids trapped in the failing public school system.
I'm not angry, just feel bad for the people in California who have had to endure so much.

Actually I hate how Oliver does that very, very much. Not only is it logical fallacy to do so, it embodies exactly what is wrong with media today. Disinfo, diffuse, and dispatch.
For ONCE, goddamnit, use your own words, own thoughts, and stay on point.

The CFR has members of its community that are in the publishing business. That's sorta "what they do". There are a lot of members who are in the educational publishing business, directly. There is no doubt that educational publications have been re-written over the years to revise history and form an opinion of young minds wishing to "learn".
To understand is to "Stand Under".

Yes, and so is paying heed to your ancestors, and their ancestors, and those before you (who know more than you, guaranteed.)
While there is no doubt I've changed my tone and calmed down on all this stuff, it seems you haven't changed a bit.
This disappoints me, I was hoping you'd be awake by now.

I've got one, and its great. I'm just trying to help others around me and that's why I'm here. But maybe I see now that discussions of this Ilk just can't happen here.

Seems to be sound advice from a man who is open and honest about his capabilities.
Wouldn't you agree?
and I should take advice from someone who obviously is not well versed in the art of sarcasm ?

Not all change is good. Look where "hope and change" got us - doubled down on the debt. What changes do you want? More or less power for the federal government?
But I have an uncomfortable feeling that this prosperity isn't something on which we can base our hopes for the future. No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income. Today, 37 cents out of every dollar earned in this country is the tax collector's share, and yet our government continues to spend 17 million dollars a day more than the government takes in. We haven't balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We've raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations of the world. We have 15 billion dollars in gold in our treasury; we don't own an ounce. Foreign dollar claims are 27.3 billion dollars. And we've just had announced that the dollar of 1939 will now purchase 45 cents in its total value.

which would happen if the other candidates got caught red handed doing the illegal shit they do and were drawn away in handcuffs. He'd be like one of 6 people left in the Legislative branch, I think.
I agree with you Oliver (again.)
People also forget about Reagan and his huge money spending on Star Wars projects which I believe were ways to siphon untold huge amounts of money away. Reaganomics was baaaad. He, compared to actual conservative views, was pretty goddamn liberal. He also brought us the "Just say No to Drugs" concept. Cute.
