California in the 40's was not the bastion of liberalism it is today. California was taken over by the liberals in the 60's and managed to kick out all of the military people and military contractors - and most of it's money. So a family with a high paying job was replaced by a family of immigrants (mostly mexicans) on welfare. And how has that state done under liberal democratic rule ? Quite badly apparently.

What i read somewhere as best i can remember.
As we left an agrarian society and moved into the industrial age they needed factory workers. So that is about the time the public schools got going in America.
The whole system was set up to turn out usable factory workers and keep them entertained.
Now that America is past the industrial age no one has a clue what to do.
There was supposed to be some utopian society where the USA would be the brains of the world and the rest of the world produce products to meet our needs.
So we could live in an idyllic park like world (ya right)
Well that plan worked for a few and is now on the skids also.

I just know here where I live, private scholls are going up like crazy and home schooling is becoming more and more common. On the flip side, they are closing public schools pretty regularly. I kind of feel bad for the kids trapped in the failing public school system.

I'm not angry, just feel bad for the people in California who have had to endure so much.

The CFR has members of its community that are in the publishing business. That's sorta "what they do". There are a lot of members who are in the educational publishing business, directly. There is no doubt that educational publications have been re-written over the years to revise history and form an opinion of young minds wishing to "learn".

Not all change is good. Look where "hope and change" got us - doubled down on the debt. What changes do you want? More or less power for the federal government?

We haven't balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We've raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations of the world. We have 15 billion dollars in gold in our treasury; we don't own an ounce. Foreign dollar claims are 27.3 billion dollars. And we've just had announced that the dollar of 1939 will now purchase 45 cents in its total value.

I agree with you Oliver (again.)

People also forget about Reagan and his huge money spending on Star Wars projects which I believe were ways to siphon untold huge amounts of money away. Reaganomics was baaaad. He, compared to actual conservative views, was pretty goddamn liberal. He also brought us the "Just say No to Drugs" concept. Cute.
