I was driving home this afternoon and on my way I noticed a big tent with a huge banner hanging from it in a parking lot that said FREE OBAMA PHONES!! Free phone, Free minutes and Free texting. I stopped and tried to take a pic but was asked to put my camera away. I asked the guy what was going on and he said he was campaigning for Pres Obama and signing up unregistered voters as democrats. If they signed up to vote they got a free Obama Phone with 450 min a month and 1500 texts per month care of the President. I looked it up and it is a program that gives free cell phones to anyone collecting SS Benefits, CHiP, living in Sec 8 housing or making 125% of the poverty salary. It was intended to be a program to offer people who couldnt afford a phone the ability to dial 911 and get emergency services, it has now become another entitlement program that is killing our country, this is your tax dollars at work!!
The scam/lies that these campaign people are pulling to gather votes is amazing. Last time around in Baltimore it was Obama is going to give me a check every month to pay for my car and my rent, now its free cell phones. WTF is next to keep him in office?

I've seen TV spots for those phones for a few years, and yeah it was intended as a 911/emergency phone for people with no access to a land line due to bad credit or whatever. Typical govt program, I doubt that politics has as much to do with it as the ability of bureaucrats to create a little empire and give their buddies some juicy contracts.

Umm, all of the posted articles note that it is a real program. Attributing it's existence to Obama is wrong but again, do you really believe that politicians and their supporters always tell the honest to goodness truth?

What people don't know is that if a residence has ever had phone service, then 911 still works. Plug a phone in the jack and dial the 3 numbers and you will be connected.
The phone company doesn't send a guy in to disconnect those wires from the central office, they just turn off the dial tone to that phone line and stop all calls but 911 from going through.

I have no problem with them going out and pounding the pavement to get voters, but dont lie to them and call it an "Obama Phone" when its not.
