Should we really embrace SPL? I thought the whole reason this forum was born in the first place was because a bunch of guys who were solely about SQ came together here? I think we should discourage SPL as much as possible. It gives us all a bad name and it's just a childish distateful thing to do.

Here is what I learned in high school ... if you want something to be forgotten~then forget it !
Now if you are ready to fully embrace something, start posts about it and posts in the offending spot as much as you can...feed the frenzie
Do exactly what you're doing, perhaps go to another site and speak about it there, maybe call some people and stir the pot that away, draw as much attention to it as you can !!!!!

who cares? You aren't paying for the site... You can be inspired to bring a little of both to your system... Most people, at one point or another, like to turn their shit up and hear their drivers wang!
Like I said, it gives us a bad name. And I did donate money to this site which I'd almost like to ask for it back after the direction this site has taken since then. Maybe I should ask for it back and then send it to NPdang instead.

Hmmm I thought this was a mobile audio site? I do not see it saying anywhere this is an SQ forum. WTF how does it give you a bad name having SPL guys on the forums??? Buddy life is too short to be bitching about crap like this. Just my $.02

You have 1 post and that is how you are going to start here? This forum has been purely about home made sound quality for years until recently and it has slowly but drastically made a change and in some ppls eyes not for the better. It helps to know the history before making a hasty assumption. Theres your .02 back

There a simple solution to all this. Make the "New Post" button customizable so that you can pick specific forums to be included only. This way everyone is happy.
Any topic that a person feels is not part of DIYMA won't be and will only be some data in the background of a server on the net. This will keep anyone happy and encourage more users at the same time.

Yeah, obviously from your post count you know nothing of the history of this forum. This isn't just another car audio forum with a bunch of kids who just got their first subwoofer and are going around blasting it out their windows every chance they get.

That's a cool idea although it's sad that it has to come to that.

Seriously guys, I don't come here and ask you guys about optimal CO2 levels for a planted aquarium with lighting levels of 100 lumens/sq ft. This site has a specific purpose. The last time I checked, it revolved around sound quality through relatively unconventional, low-cost means such as 8ohm drivers design for in-home, or in-studio use.
There are a great deal of sites specifically devoted to SPL. That's where you'll find your answers to questions regarding disproportionately high output in the first few octaves of the audible sound spectrum.
Like I said, it gives us a bad name. And I did donate money to this site which I'd almost like to ask for it back after the direction this site has taken since then. Maybe I should ask for it back and then send it to NPdang instead.
GIVES US A BAD NAME?? That's some funny shit right there!!!
You act like SQ is some elite group or something. Somehow better than all other car audio. I got news for you, SQ is only better at sounding better, but then, that's the point of SQ, isn't it? This isn't DIYSQ, it's DIYMA. The MA stands for Mobile Audio. That's a broad spectrum, and, yes, that should include SPL.
Bottom Line, if you don't care for SPL, then don't post in the section. That section was created to keep all SPL related topics out of the SQ section in an effort to keep the SQ section cleaner for you so called "elite"

Exactly. Well said. That is all I'm trying to say. The people who want the SPL section are the people who probably weren't here before the forum was sold and don't know that originally it was an SQ forum even though it didn't say so in the title. Everyone knew what the forum was about so it wasn't necessary. Everything was almost like word of mouth and a lot of people came here because someone told them ahout this great SQ place to discuss how to achieve better SQ out our cars, not higher SPL numbers.
If you guys are here to learn about SPL you're in the wrong place. Bottom line.

You SHOULD be happy it's there!!
It's not that we're elite, it's that we have different tastes and goals here. It's the same as if you bought a toyota forum and decided since some people like Ford you should have a Ford section to keep the Ford stuff out of the Toyota section when the people who want to talk about Ford shouldn't be here in the first place. They need to go to the Ford forum.
I don't think I can put it any simpler straight forward way than that.

I think the poll results pretty much spell it out. It shouldn't be part of this forum.

True, but he bought a MOBILE AUDIO forum. It says so right in the name. Mobile audio , like I said, is a broad spectrum. Using your car forum analogy, he didn't purchase a toytota forum, he purchased the equivalant of Cardomain. which includes all makes of vehicles.
See how it doesn't say "the ultimate in SPL"? That's because it's an SQ site. From the roots. Ant knew this when he bought the site and I believe(I thought)he knows why everyone was here in the first place. Although I'm not too sure of his intentions anymore.

I am a contributing member and fully agree that the spl section should NOT be on this site. Few, if any, people on this site care for that spectrum of car audio. There are plenty of other sites for them to use. Do away with the section so as not to encourage posts covering spl issues, ignore them, and they will eventually go elsewhere. This is historically SQ and we want to keep it that way. Elitist?? Yes I am. Don't you feel you are??

He didnt purchase the equivalent to Cardomain, he bought an upgraded expanded ECA and it has changed to a Cardomain, the SQ part was taken out so he could expand and not feel bad about it.....

If we keep trying to ignore all the changes around here this site is going to continue to go down hill until it's just another caraudio.com forum. Maybe ant thinks he doesn't need the SQ guys who were here before he was around to keep his advertisers around if he lets all the SPL lovers in here to replace us.
Now that I think about it, the only change I have agreed with since he took over was the recent "choose your own stickies" option. And there's been a lot of changes around here since he took over. A lot. All he had to do was leave it all alone and it would still be great.

Look up in the top left where it says "The Ultimate In Sound Quality" (main folder)
From my experience, it is not that big of a deal to add a section for a specific goal. I understand why the staff put that section up, as the DIYma community is growing and has started to appeal to a wider audience. This is another thing of the DIYma core people are not happy with the change. Chances are in the end, there is not going to be enough people or traffic to support a totally separate section for the high output crowd. So it will probably go away in time anyway.
The one thing that does bother me about this thread is the perspective by people on people who are into "SPL". Is not the goal in the end to share and learn with everyone who is into DIY mobile audio? Yes the slogan is about he ultimate in SQ, but that should not cast away, or have a negative perspective of people who want to strive for high output.
No don't get me wrong, I voted NO for the section as I don't feel it is fitting of the majority of the member base here, but in reality it is not our choice and I don't think it is our place as a member base to be making polls on the decisions of the running of the site. Only the people who own the site, run the site, or donate to the site are really the ones who make the end decision and they should be the ones, if they decide to, open a change up to debate.
Well I guess since I donated to the site I'm voicing my opinion that this was, is and always should be an SQ forum through and through.
