I am taking the CC permit class soon and will be carrying the Taurus
PT24/7 Pro. I am having trouble finding CC holsters for it though. I want a thigh and an ankle holster for the gun so I can have it when I am wearing pants or shorts. I've googled but I am having a hard time coming up with what I want. Any help would be great. |

that gun really isn't going to fit an ankle holster well, you would be better getting a pancake holster or a shoulder holster. i carry a kahr cw9 which is smaller than the 24/7 and i wouldn't want to wear my cw9 on my ankle, it's to big and i would be really uncomfortable.

I'd look at something in an IWB variety given your weapon choice. I use a crossbreed supertuck for iwb carry (g26) and a desantis nemesis for pocket carry (snubbie). I've got a couple owb holsters as well but don't use them much.
Just my personal opinion, but ankle holsters should be for a backup weapon only. I wouldn't use one period because I see no upside compared to other carry methods. |

I agree with Autiophile. I carry a springfield armory xd 45 5" barrel. Not the easiest thing to carry and not show off. I find the fobus or blackhawk the lowest profile for my larger size gun, but have not attempted to place anything around my ankle. I carry a standard holster on my hip day to day and a thigh/drop leg holster for a backup while hunting. Good luck with the course, and you have chosen a fine weapon!

Thanks a lot for the info guys. It cool to see that a lot of you guys carry. After reading your suggestions, I guess an ankle holster is a bad idea. I don't want to wear a hip holster because what people can see they can grab. IWB does seem like a good option. My only concern is that I am a smaller framed guy (5'11" and 155lbs) and I wear well fitted clothes. Would my weapon be obvious with the IWB type holster?
Edit: Looks like I'll be going with the Supertuck IWB. They have a video on their site that shows the holster and from the looks of it my gun wouldn't stick out very much if at all. $70.00 isn't a bad price either. Once agian thanks for the advice. |

Look into the comptac line of holsters here: Comp-Tac : About Us
My favorites are the C-Tac and the MTAC. Another favorite holster maker of mine is the Crossbreed Supertuck from this guy: CrossBreed Holsters, Innovative holsters for concealed carry-1911-Glock-HK-Sig-Taurus-Kimber-Springfield-Colt-XD As for ankle carry, it is ok, but I would never suggest ankle carry as a primary method of carry. Pocket carry a small J frame revolver/Kel-tec/or Kahr would be better than ankle carrying. Trust me, when you are in an upright position, it is a royal bitch to pull a holster from your ankle. OTOH, ankle carry is perfect if you spend a lot of time in a vehicle. As for my favorite carry weapons, I prefer a commander size 1911, a Glock 19, a Glock 26, and a Kel-Tec P3AT. I usually carry a primary and a backup, just in case because I have learned from training that it is faster to grab another gun than it is to clear a malfunction or reload.

So you guys pack a pistol around with you everywhere you go every day? That's pretty crazy. I mean to have one in your car I can see but on you at all times? I guess people just don't do that in washington. I have yet to see one person with a pistol on them. That's not to say there haven't been any people I've seen that I wasn't aware of them packing due to it being concealed.
Tell me more about this. Do you have it concealed or is it easily visible to anyone? Don't you have to remove it to go into a building or business? Doesn't that get annoying? Basically the only time I can see someone having a gun on them is while they're driving or at home. If you took it off to go into a business, that's about the only time you'd have it on would be driving there. Have you guys been in a situation where you needed it or are you insecure? Maybe you live in a bad city or something. I guess I'm just having a hard time grasping the idea of packing guns around with you everywhere. |

Most places don't allow open carry, but it is becoming more common and more states are passing open-carry provisions.
I don't know much about Washington, but the whole point of concealed carry is that you will never know how many people around you have a weapon. I don't see it as paranoia or insecurity so much as just being prudent, these days. There are so many wackos out there, you just never know what's going to happen. Your day can go from bright and sunny to your worst nightmare in a flash of a second. We have idiots walking into McDonald's and opening fire. Ditto for schools, courthouses, malls, public places and even churches. How many people died at Virginia Tech? Most of that could have been prevented if a couple of people on that campus had been allowed to carry concealed, I believe. For one thing, I think it would actually make me more likely to back down from a threatening situation if I were carrying concealed. Seem counter-intuitive? Think of it this way... Say you're out to dinner with your family or friends and some stranger starts getting mouthy... maybe he's drunk, maybe just an asshole, whatever. He gets in your face and threatens to do bodily harm to you or your companions. If you have nothing to use but your fists, it would obviously get your adrenaline pumping and the reaction is one of two things... either back off or come right back at him. Obviously, if you take the aggressive option, the situation escalates to violence and who knows what will happen? He may beat the life out of you, he may pull a weapon, his friends may jump in, etc. If you back off, he may take it as a sign of weakness and push the issue further... perhaps even becoming physical. It is at this point that something needs to be done. However, if you have a 1911 strapped to the small of your back, you can have confidence knowing that whatever he does, you are prepared and can handle the situation, with deadly force if needed to protect yourself or your family. The ball is in his court to make that determination by his actions... however, it is much easier to swallow your tongue and back down and try to de-escalate the situation as much as possible when you have calm and confidence in the eventual outcome. There are only two... either he backs off, or you take firm and definitive control if there is no other option. Now, the key to this is that the CCW permit holder must be a mature, rational person who can demonstrate calm and control of his/her emotions in extreme situations. A young person with a hot temper, someone who is likely to fly off the handle, uses alcohol in excess (especially in public), etc., is not a good candidate to carry a concealed deadly weapon, IMNSHO. Am I paranoid of every little sound or strange-looking person out in public? No, but I have been in scary situations... watched as one person was robbed at gunpoint, had a knife pulled on me by a drunk in a confined space, have been involved in trying to break up fights between drunks in public places, have seen many people in public obviously hopped up on drugs causing various disturbances, etc. Environmental bias? I don't hang out in bars or associate with druggies, I live in a decent area (and have most of my adult life), yet I've still been exposed to many threats... very few of which would have required me to draw a concealed weapon, but I sure don't want to be in a situation that might require one, yet not have it.

Yeah, I can understand wanting to carry a concealed weapon. I've just never known anyone who does and was wondering if they had to leave it in their vehicle all the time or just brought it in concealed with them wherever they go.
Are you allowed to have it on you inside a walmart or gas station, etc? I wouldn't mind having a concealed weapons permit but at the same time having a gun on me could be dangerous. You never know, you could end up getting shot with that gun in a situation where it was the only gun there and you wouldn't have gotten shot if you hadn't had it on you. For instance if someone saw it on you and somehow got it off you or if you pulled it on someone who either took you by surprise or someone else came from behind you. I dunno I just don't want to get shot with my own gun. Anything can happen. What if you pulled it on someone and then they had a gun and pulled it and their friend(s) had a gun(s) and also pulled theirs out and all of the sudden you're in a shitty situation where maybe if you hadn't had the gun it wouldn't have gone that far. Who knows. |

The whole point of concealed is that it is concealed. If you know what you are doing, no one will ever know. Prohibited places by law in Louisiana are bars (duh), polling places, police stations, court houses, churches, and schools. There are some exceptions, as in if you are an employee of one of these places that is prohibited by law.
Trust me, after hurricane Katrina, I saw how bad things could get in my area. Hell, I won't go to New Orleans unarmed! I've owned a handgun since 1993 and have had my concealed carry permit for quite some time. This is one of those things that I would rather have and not need than need and not have. Also, as for carrying all the time where ever it is legal..... What is the point of getting a concealed handgun permit if you are not going to carry ALL the time? You do realize that one time you don't carry, Mr. Murphy will make you wish that you had. |

Locations that you are allowed to carry changes from state to state. Living in NH we are allowed to take it most anywhere except the obvious like police, and municipal buildings, etc... One place that most people dont realize is that you are not allowed to take it to any mall??? seems odd, but no big deal. I have been involved in a failed attempted car jacking (worcester, ma at knife point) (no gun at the time) I was able to get away unscaved and with my truck but it scared the hell out of me. Had I had a gun at the time I could have laughed and made them have to change there shorts, all while learned a very valuable lesson. I had my car robbed in my own driveway a year ago my F-1 dvd deck was stolen and I lived in really nice area. First thing I did was go buy a really nice alarm, and bought my new 45. I already had my permit to carry but had been dragging my feet about what gun I wanted. I have several rifles and shot guns since I am an avid hunter but if I need something fast my 308 is not the easiest thing to get out, and although it is legal in my state to walk down the street with it over my sholder (you would get harrassed by the boys in blue all day, but yes its legal) it just isnt practical. I find that I am much more calm and reserved in stressed or semi-violent situations knowing that I am carrying a gun, otherwise I have a pretty bad temper and dont like to take crap from anyone. It kinda levels me out because I dont want to have to use it. I also have a holster attached to my night stand and one on my center console for driving. It can be a pain in a$$ to take around but there is always the "what if".......... situation. I know that I want to have a gun on me if its needed.
just my perspective based on what I have seen and dealt with... |

Oh I forgot to add that locations that are posted as no guns allowed by the property/store owners are also prohibited locations. Too bad the signs don't really mean jack shit in Louisiana because the worst they can do is ask you to leave. If you refuse to leave they can call the cops and get you charged with that bullshit "Remaining after being forbidden" charge.
I often thought about becoming a commissioned officer just so I don't have to worry about ANY carry laws in ANY state. I may still do it one of these days! |

The scenarios you propose are not impossible, but the permit holder should be responsible enough to mitigate the concerns you raised. Again the point of concealed carry is that people can't see it. My wife often can't tell if I'm carrying. Further, it is the permit holders responsibility to ensure weapon retention. That means both a secure carry method and knowing how to handle the weapon decisively if it is ever drawn. You don't just go pulling you carry weapon anytime you feel a little threatened. It comes out when you fear imminent bodily harm or death. The whole, "what if they draw guns too" question is the wrong order of events. Just because you carry a gun doesn't mean you can go escalating conflicts to the "deadly force" level just so people will back down. That is reckless and avoidance of such a situation is taught in every reasonable CCW class. The gun is the last option. You pull it when danger is not just possible, it is imminent. I had an acquaintance get shot recently in Savannah. He was driving his new car home after working late. A car behind him flashes its lights, he pulls over to see what's going on (figuring he's got a flat or something), a guy comes to the drivers window and says "I want to buy your car. How much?". Before he could even get out a response of "WTF?" another guy came around the front and shot him twice through the windshield. Luckily he pinned the gas and got away with only two bullets in his shoulder. Another guy was mugged here recently, and after he gave all the stuff to the mugger, the robber shot him in the leg. This was in the biggest park in Savannah. During the day, the area is reasonably safe. At night it's a different ballgame. I know the areas to avoid, but during tourist season, the criminals come further into the nice ares because the selection gets better. On a slightly funnier note: This was posted on craigslist in Savannah recently. My local FFL claims to know the guy who wrote it and says it's real. I don't know for sure, but it is amusing. I've been getting all of mine from High Noon Holsters Clicky they're inexpensive, high quality and made right here in Florida. There are more exotic options out there, but I prefer to keep it simple.

Hmmm. None of them offer anything to holster my Uzi. I need it when I take the boys to Chuck E Cheese. You never know when there could be a hostage situation and you wouldn't want to be outgunned at a gunfight.

I got 2 of them custom tooled from a place called Little Feather's Leathers in Clarksville, IN. Gorgeous work, and custom for your gun/needs.LFL Home Page
Oh, and there has been precedence set in Kentucky where those places that say you can't carry your gun can be sued. If you get attacked in one of those "legal" places, and weren't allowed to carry your gun in, the institution is held liable. Won't do you much good, but your family can get more than your insurance policy. |
