So my Fiancee and I are about fed up, both her and my bed, are old and no longer have good support. I have had a few back injuries over the years, and wake every morning in bad pain. I know there are sleep number beds, foam beds, pillow top ect... But which one offers the best comfort, support and long life?
I got a pillow top and it lasted about a year before I started seeing dips.
I've been sleeping on a Comfortaire bed (very similar to sleep number) for over 7 years now. I love it. My wife has severe back problems (needs a fusion) and it is the only mattress she can sleep on without waking up multiple times in the night. Here's a link for you to take a look at.
wife and i have a memory foam bed, she seems to like it alot, doesn't complain about her back now, but I don't really care for it, it now has dips/depressions in each respective side but we haven't flipped it or turned it in ~4 yrs. IMO, the foam mattress is hard to turn over in during the night, I have to make an "effort" to roll over, etc., they are a bit "warmer" during the winter but the same in the summer as they retain body heat imo as well. I would almost just get a decent old school mattress and replace it whenever needed. The foam mattress is HEAVY as well, like trying to move wet concrete.
I took my frame off my old bed and set the box and mattress on the floor to try and get comfortable. That lasted a few weeks, and then I took the box away and am currently sleeping on just the mattress on the floor. I have a 3 inch memory topper which helps, but I'm ready to buy something else. I have back problems too.
So no advice other than this: DO NOT BUY FROM J.C. PENNEY'S. I did, and the service was bad and they have a no return policy. I'll never deal with them again.
Oh, one more thing (I guess I do have a recommendation). The best bed I ever owned was a Ortho brand I bought in California. I can't get one here, but they are in several western states, and, I believe, the mid-west of all places. They are a Cali. company. I googled them some time ago, and I am damned tempted to order another one sight unseen to be shipped to me. My old one was that good - I still have it in storage for when company visits.

I have an Seally Posturepedic euro-top. It's amazing. Although It now has very slight depressions after 4 years. But those 4 years have been some amazingly comfortable years.
I have been through 3 beds in the last 5 years... Everytime getting more and more expensive ones.
Right now I got a memory foam bed and the first year (just like every other bed) was great, but now it' been almost 3 and both me and the wife are getting up with back and neck aches all the time. It's gotten to mushy.
Beds are great for the first year and after that they change.
My next bed will be something like the sleep number, I think it's the only way to get consistent results, but also be able to modify your "number" if you gain or loose weight. Although it does feel different.
$3,799.98!! damn... i dread the day that i need to spend more than $150 on a mattress because my back hurts when i wake up...
I just got my second mattress recently and it was $150 no tax. It is really comfy too haha. Pillow top spring mattress, but then again i don't have back problems.

We just bought a Tempur Pedic Cloud Supreme and so far it is helping me sleep. It is expected that you need to get accustomed to it, but then again it's different technology. They are expensive, but they do come with a 20 year warranty...10 being replacement and the last 10 are prorated. Out last bed lasted 2 years before I couldn't stand it anymore.
WOW yeah I would like to have a $4000 bed, but right now we are getting married soon, trying to buy a house, and I may need a new car. So we were looking to spend $700-$1000 at the most, as we have a tight budget at this time.
I bought a latex matress and love it. It has been several years, but I did a lot of research on Mattress Forum before settling on a mail order piece. I think it was around $1500 for a king at the time.

We bought a Verlo Mattress factory mattress a few years ago. Had it for the guest bed. I have to purposely stay away cause if I lay down on that mattress, I fall asleep. Verlo went out of business locally I believe, but I have seen them in my traveling.

I don't like the sleep number beds I've slept on, the split down the middle bothers the heck out of me.
You get what you pay for with memory foam beds. THe Temperpedic is an excellent bed, the knockoffs aren't so great.
I had a latex bed a long time ago, and it was great. Make sure to do the research as mfr quality varies.
I have a Temperpedic in one place and a Sealy Posturpedic in the other- if you sleep in warm room temperatures, pass on the memory foam, it loses firmness as the temps go up.

you can probably find somewhere to sell you a $3000 bed for $50 a month.

I have one too and it had visible saggs within a year. Came with a 15yr warrenty, but they said it was natural wear and it wouldn't be covered
Sleep numbers are great. We've had ours for over 10 years with no complaints. Only nit is that the motor that pumps up the bed is a little loud. I've been too lazy to make a baffle for it.
You might want to look at orthopedic pillows also, for proper head and neck support.

I should have stated it differently. Memory foam does not do well with varying temperatures. it's a simple matter of chemistry. The "memory" function is based upon temperature... If density is increased to adjust for higher ambient temperature, the mattress will be harder at lower temperatures.
That said, I am very happy with my Tempurpedic mattress, which I have owned for 8 years.
But it wouldn't be the proper mattress to use in my place down south, as I don't sleep in strictly climate controlled conditions there.
A well made feather/down bed is a wonderful thing. The ones I have slept on were made years ago- don't know if there are any really good manufacturers any more.
